DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Goblin ambushes have stopped

So one year ago in my current 31.21 fortress, my embark metalworker and embark miner, were kicking goblin ass and taking names. Gleefully helped by goblin loyalty cascades that simplified work. (Well the miner did killed a forgotten beast, that's why he got it's name). I am smelting the large amounts of goblinite and selling the troll fur crap to the caravans.

Miner is called Ushrir Priestwhipped the Depression of Lovers (not the best name really), metalworker is called Kib Tautsword the Mortification of Searing (much cooler). Both legendary fighters.

Now there have been no ambushes for 4 seasons and i have no idea why the hell are the goblins not coming back. Maybe it's because I have now 23 dwarves only ? (I never had more than 30 anyways) Or it's that loyalty cascade problem ? I had loyalty cascades in 2 ambush waves already, and they kill off most of the waves.

Cannot they be exoskeleton undead rather than normal skeleton undead ? Oh well.

Be also sure to raise their frequency in the raws. As well as giant leopards and giant jaguars.

In my untamed wilds desert, I keep getting endless hordes of camels, with the occasional GDS cluster once or twice per year and the occasional lonely giant predator as well.

Mod your elephants to remove [BENIGN] and add [LARGE_PREDATOR]. Then embark on a terrifying tropical dry broadleaf/coniferous forest.
I'm actually thinking of a savage desert.  Get some Giant Desert Scorpions in there.

I approve.

But normal GDS aren't especially aggressive. I've had more problems with troglodytes than GDS.

However, a terrifying desert can be fun.

Channel out a 3x3 area. Go one z-level down, and channel the slopes you just created. Repeat procedure for 9 z-levels. That's it, you have now a pit.

You also should dig out a up/down stair near it so your miners doesn't get trapped.

Hell, a dragon/hydra/megabeast/demon bone armor is even more dwarfy than adamantine.

Useless, apart from badass uses in spider-themed legendary soldier custom room.

Not only the room is spider-shaped (roughly), it also is painted with cave spider poison, it has a few GCS chained in it, what else ??

Or you can pretend your military are so badass they drink cave spider venom with no problem, and impress the populace. The fact that GCS venom is an injected neurotoxin and will probably get degraded by the dwarf's stomach needs not to be known by that same populace.

If you do intend to attack Hell itself, armor and/or slashing/piercing weapons.

Heh, even if you do not intend to. Adamantine is too sparse to waste on the caravan or nobles.

And give it only to legendary armorers/weaponsmiths of course. Or, as stated before, non-legendary moody armorers/weaponsmiths.

Just hope for the weaponsmith not to make a blunt weapon out of it...

On topic, that's why Justice is a bad idea. Dwarven justice is generally quite a bit violent.

When i got my first hammerer in 40d, I thought "OH SHIT NOT HIM" and ballista'd him to death.

NO, I will call it DEMONIC FORTRESS. I don't know who had the idea of fagging around with euphemisms and silly names for all the denizens of Hell, and I am sick of it. I will call it demonic fortress ! As demons are not clowns (Not unless they have skills in Comedian) and the adamantine key to hell is not cotton candy !

Berserk ? Does my previous post looks like it was done by some raging madman ?

I was merely slightly annoyed by you, and emphasizing the contents on my post. Candy canes or cotton candies are not in the game for now, and are not adamantium longswords.

For clarity's sake. If we use euphemisms, it is bound to confuse a few newcomers to the game. And this is certainly not helping on the long term.
