Please select the darkest smoothed stone that you can clearly see without squinting.
Those would be used for the darkest stone floors in the game, anything else would be much brighter.

[pictures go here]

number 2 for me. 1 would be ok, cuz I can see the detail, but from a bit further from the monitor it all melds into black on my monitor.

@poll: there are alternatives?!? I never knew. Do these alternatives have piccys to go with them?

I think the piccys are in your DF/data/art folder ;)

And if you read the "Phoebus.readme" file, you'd know the alternatives :D

Edit: Are you sure you updated your raws? The updated tile # for Fungiwood is already in v07.

And wooden doors are hardcoded to use the vertical (N-S) wall tile. It'll be improved (if you can call it that) when I add back external dotted engravings to the old diagonal walls.

Yeah, I think I forgot about that...fixed now. Thanks :)

Wow - so much progress recently! 2 minor things I would like to ask though:

1st

Somehow i miss something alike to the old engravings, as I otherwise find it hard to distinguish between engraved and just smoothed walls (except for the floor tiles/parts of the tile)

2nd
The floodgates/wall grates tile - is there any particular reason why it is doorshaped? I am currently always mirroring its upper few pixels and place it over the bottom ones to get a somewhat circular grate.

I have to agree to the first issue, the walls should be more distinguishable. Though I love the old walls over the new ones :P
And the second issue - my floodgates are that "X" tile, so they're ok I think. Although, I had a problem before that they were doorshaped. Fixed now in the new releases of the tileset.

Now my issues :)

There's something I wanted to ask before.

Left: Fungiwood is still trees... in the new "diagonal_Meld" set
Right: Wooden doors use the wall tile. It's like that for some time now. Is that supposed to be like that?

[snip]
But I'm not sure about the new sand and water tiles. Also walls.
It's just my opinion, but I think that sand stands out too much now in contrast to clay for example. I always use the "Meld" tileset and perhaps it's more visible there.
Also, the new walls, I kinda feel that enything remotely 3D somehow doesn't fit in DF. It also looks a bit awkward on bridges...but that's no biggie I edit my own "Meld" version with classic walls :)
Do you mean to sand wall tile, the sand floor tile or both?
I've greatly increased the contrast of the sand wall tile recently, and, yes, it now is much more sharp than the soil/clay wall tile, I'll look into in.

Adding a new alt tileset with meld tiles and diagonal walls would very easy for me, I'll add it next version.

Yes, I've ment sand wall, sorry to confuse. :)

Hi,
I'm new on the forums and new in DF generally. I just came by to comment on the tileset :)

First of all, it's possibly the best tileset out there (in my opinion) and I simply love it. I wouldn't be able to play DF without it ;)
But the latest changes don't appeal to me somehow.
The new barrel is great, just yesterday I was thinking that the barrels would need a new tile ;)
I also like the new egg/snow/foam tile.

But I'm not sure about the new sand and water tiles. Also walls.

Also, Phoebus, about your question about the bones. I think both are good, the old ones seem a little off, but with some shading the might be even better than the new ones. And imho, no blood if you decide to use the new ones. Color difference is quite important here I believe.

Nonetheless, great job! I realy like your work

Phoebus, you might want to double-check the tile for Fungiwood. In my modified v5 version, they're showing up as deciduous trees instead of mushrooms. Not sure if it's just in my game.

I confirm, Fungiwood is no longer a mushroom, but a tree now. Maybe it's supposed to be that way? ;p
