Other Games / Re: Space Station 13: Urist McStation

After reading some of the more macabre adventures described in this thread, my interest has over taken me and now I'm ready to try this out.
Two questions though:
  • Do you guys go easy on new players, or do I need to find somewhere to train?
  • Any tips for aforementioned new player?

1) I'm very new, and people haven't been tearing chunks off me - and the OOC channel's usually a good place to ask for help (as long as you don't give away too much IC information by doing so).  :)

2) Read the TGStation wiki.  Has seriously helped me out loads.

Just had a fun round playing as the chef, who proceeded to whip up plenty of pizza and cheesecake until a blob exploded through the back wall of the kitchen.  Rest of the crew fought it off, then power went down, and atmospherics, and it turned into a mad scramble to the escape shuttle/pods as the singularity escaped.

Kudos to whoever was the mime.

Meh. Didn't realise scapel vs hardsuit would lose to pickaxe vs labcoat so fast

Got in like 10-15 stabs, nothing. Then 3 hits from pickaxe and I'm down

To be fair, pickaxe to the head is pretty effective anytime, anywhere.  ;)  You did scare the everloving crap out of me, though.

Oh, and I was *this* close to escaping, before I got stuck in front of the escape shuttle and two aliens murdered Amir and Garret.

Yeah, sorry, I was one of them.  Although I ran away as soon as the shuttle docked with headquarters.  Breaking quarantine takes precedence over breaking you meat-creatures.  ;)

The blob was a pain.  Died initially trying to burn it back.  :(

Today I learned: if you're an alien without plasma, you're pretty much just target practice.

I made oranges.

 :P
And you punned at me in botany.

Alas, I couldn't think of more than a couple of stool/chair/seat puns.  And then my orange-related puns got my syringed in the escape shuttle.  But hey, at least we all had snacks for the journey!

This is fun.  I still have no idea what I'm doing, but it's fun!

Tip: you cannot hide from an escaped singularity by hiding in a locker.  The More You Know.

I've yet to see a lag problem on our server, actually. Yay!

That's good - although the majority of my problem used to be internet lag, rather than server-side.  But I was on a crappy connection at the time, not my shiny current one, so hopefully that'll have gone too!  :D

It's been a long time since I've booted up my BYOND account, but this looks like fun.   :)  I may join and observe for a bit - I played a couple of times long ago, but stopped due to lag woes.  :-\

No, they don't want to be prosperous in `our` meaning. Not at all.

Thats also why I am against idea of employing democracy everywhere. I am not very old, but I've been `there` and you never lose a feeling that you speak with people from other galaxy

So...democracy is good, except when the people who want it don't agree with you?

I think you may have misunderstood democracy.

The Kickstarter is rather well-written.  A lot of the team seem to have come from the same place (Age of Conan/The Secret World/previous Dreamfall titles), but I actually view that as a good thing - they've got prior experience not just of delivering projects, but delivering them together.  Hopefully lessens the chances of friction.

Their target date (November 2014) is a fair way off, but again I think that's a good thing - if they'd said it'll be ready by the end of this year, I would've been concerned they'd be rushing it and would either miss the target or botch the game.  November 2014 sounds realistic without being so far away that it'll just drift.

And hell, it's Ragnar's baby, I'd like to think he's invested enough in it that it's a labour of love rather than just labour, so I've got faith that he'll get it done by hook or by crook, somehow.  :P

Leaked SimCity 2013's manual.

Is this genuine?  Just curious.  If it is, one thing that makes me cautious is the lack of a simple new game - you have to 'choose' a Region Map, and then 'claim' a city site...is this always-online, and am I always going to be competing against other players?

Also, no high/medium/low density zoning?  I just zone resi/comm/ind and it builds up the density on its own?  Hmm.  Not sure whether that's an improvement or a step backward.  Reduces micromanagement, I guess, but what if I *want* to make that beautiful lakeside shore into a heaving industrial dystopia rather than a mildly factory-scattered beach?

SimCity Store - colour me unsurprised.
