I believe so. Similarly, replacing [PET_EXOTIC] with [PET] does work.
It works, but you have to start a new world gen. I started playing after a few months away and only AFTER starting a fortress did I check to see if Dungeonmasters were working yet. They aren't, so I modded all my animals with the Pet_Exotic tag. It didn't work for the fortress I already established so I had to make a new one.
The trick is to mod the raws in your save folder. Not jst the normal raws.
Some don't apply even if you do that. If I recall correctly, entities that already spawned onto the map will have the properties that their raws had when they spawned no matter what.

The mod seems quite nice, but I dislike graphics packs and the ASCII version is rather out of date. Is there a way I can manually change a graphics version to use ASCII?

DFprospector has been working fine until just now, and now it's giving me this:

pread failed: can't read 4 bytes at addres 0
errno: 5
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'DFHack::Error::MemoryAccessDenied'
  what():  Invalid memory access @0x0
Aborted

I'm fairly sure nothing's changed since I last made an attempt at prospecting. DFcleanmap doesn't give this error, but fails to do anything.

You can't train cave crocodiles for war/hunting. They'll still attack goblins if tamed, though, I take it?
I modded mine.
Just did so here.
Speaking of which, are there any other deadly creatures I should be aware of that aren't trainable for war, but are convenient enough war beasts to mod as trainable? I was thinking GCS, maybe, but they're too rare. I'd prefer a silk farm.

If you look at the civs screen before you embark, it sorts the names of civilizations based on their distance from you. You could make a copy of your fort, abandon it, and then check distance on that one.

Mod in the ability to train them as war animals.

Can that be done after worldgen and still take effect?

I GOT IT! Rats! USELESS RATS!
Remember the vermin remains that stuck Boatmurdered's door open, leading to its bloody demise?

Captured goblin thieves. You can't even toss them off a cliff because they somehow escape in midair.

The pathfinding?
Also, your avatar is strange. Adlike. It IS an ad, actually. And a suspicious one at that.

Where would you find your first cavern? I've been reading on them and dug out almost a whole layer (layer -12) and I haven't found a cavern.
You might well have missed it. Dig horizontally to your shaft.

Is there a way to equip specific items to a specific dwarf?
In my case I want to give my Countess an artifact cape.
I think artefacts only get worn by champions-- either way, as far as I know you can't equip special clothing on anything but the military.

If you're going with magma, and want an easily accessible cistern lower down, be aware that pressurised magma under grates fills rooms above it REALLY quickly if it's forced up by pumps.

Come to think of it, I had a horrible revelation...

...werecats.  Overtaking the world through sheer reproductive might.
In a terrifying biome, would a catsplosion just result in more sub-cats? All of which are reanimated with their own independent pathing...
Werecat necro-splosion.

If you want to confirm that it's the new Windows upgrade rather than a hardware problem (motherboard, etc), and have a USB drive with 50MB of space free, put Damn Small Linux on it and boot from the USB. Get DF-- which works with Linux very easily-- and see if the keys keep repeating. I personally suspect it's a fault of the upgrade process, since every time I've seen anyone go from Vista to 7 without wiping everything clean, something screws up.

If the curse can indeed apply to most anything, and werewolves (the creature itself) aren't excluded from a were-curse, I think we can get werewerewolves.
