DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Steelguilds died badly to a Dimetrodon with deadly blood and external ribs. It actually caused the skin to blister so badly they died when coming into contact with its blood. And it just so happens it covered half the fort in said blood during its death. multi goblin siege showed up but they found just a few horribly blistered dwarfs in a melancholy mood to greet them which they cut down in short order. Then they touched the blood that was everywhere and started dieing also!

Just kill all wildlife with your militia and practice on captive enemies. It nets great xp. I find making all my militia do stone and bonecraft for the added agility works great. A good idea also is embarking with a military dwarf skilled 3 in dodge, 3 in fighter 1 in leader and teacher and the rest in a weapon skill. When actively training and demonstrating hell pass on his skills much faster. Fighter and dodger I think are the most important skills to get high first. Everything else can be easier achieved via hunting wildlife with militia and practicing on captives. Also faster healing dwarfs in your military might give them better chances in surviving to learn skills.

platinum armour is, due to it's weakness and flexiblitity, SHITE!

give it to the captain of the guard, just to slow him down so he can't reach urist mcfailedmandate.

So he'll train strenght? Rather not.

Give him all the heaviest armor possible. He wont be able to catch offending dwarfs as easily.

My current fort has been founded on a small mountain riddled with galena. Luckily my militia commander loves lead. So Im going to make her entire bedroom and office and dining room from the stuff. If it ends up succumbing to a goblin invasion Steeguilds will need to be renamed to leadguilds. Unless flux and iron are in the caves that might have been an overly optimistic name.

So whats the precedent for asking for a bunch of maces and axes one liason, then asking for booze and crutches the next?

They bring whatever you request if they can make it. prices dont fluctuate or change yet.

How on earth are you running 200 dwarves without your computer turning into a smoking wreck? Are you getting more than ten FPS?

I'm almost at 200 dwarves too plus shitloads of dogs and cats and it runs still at around 50fps.

Ok, but you aren't saying *how* :P

A good tip is don't embark on running water. As useful as streams/brooks rivers are they chew up FPS. Check the magma wiki for other FPS optimization. Turn temperature off helps alot of your having issues on your machine.

It'll likely make the best shield ever. But you don't want normal armor being that heavy. They wont be able to keep up with anything with the weight of a full suit of that.

Would it be okay if I tried them out and used it for a mod I'm making? You'd be given due credit of course. I can PM you more details on it if you'd be interested helping. It mainly started with me modifying a few creatures, then an entity or two to make lizardmen and orcs. Now I want to add more but I'm what I'd call a dabbling coder at best.

Just wanted to say what your doing is great. I was starting my own mod but this mod has most of what i want in a mod. As a suggestion would you add in orcs? I can send the basic orc creature and civ I have made if you want to add them to your mod.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for making hammers and maces out of bone? I know its a terrible material compared to metal. But it would be useful to have on those maps with no metal starting out.

You need to fight dirty. Capture enemies in cage traps. Throw them in a pit that's a room filled with your militia fully armed ready to fight them. It brings amazing xp. Use weapon traps and stonefalls aplenty to soften enemy and thin their numbers. Send your squads regularly out to kill wildlife. This will raise their skills well. Otherwise I would suggest setting them to train once every six months. This way they get group demonstrations to broaden combat skills. Designate their barracks fully with the z q and t options when your designating them to a squad. Doing this means in your squads off time they'll do individual training. I generally put their only labor to hauling and stonecrafts. It raises their strength and agility. And if I have the luxury of choice I'll recruit quicker healing and agile dwarfs that like armor or a weapon they'll use.

Dikefaith had a miner rise from the dead. Mafol Tradegood was his name. He was one of my initial two miners whom I had dig a well. While the water was liquid. He drowned as a result and his body is unrecoverable at this point. Hell, his body was unrecoverable since he drowned. I don't know what to do. His body has yet to be recovered, the water is liquid, and his ghost is floating around haunting my 29-dwarf population. What do I do?!?!

Make a closable drain under your well to flush pollutants away. You might lose the dwarf that makes the final breach but isn't that a price worth paying?

My favorite I had was a pig bone mining pick. It's wielder killed a troll and countless troglodytes. He was never in the militia..

Currently taking a break from making Orc and Lizardmen civs to play a little more with the normal races. Going to make my quickest healing dwarf the military skills and the fort shall be dubbed Crimsonblade. Well see how it goes from there :P.
