*Dasleah notices the pointless swear word in the title.

*Dasleah checks Creamcorn's profile for his age.

Ah, I see. 16.

Dang it stop proving steriotypes true!

It is like driving with my dad "Some woman" when he sees a bad driver. It is always a woman.

I can't call him Sexist because he has yet to be incorrect.

I find this hilarious.

"Play-cam! A new electronic toy! Take fun pics of all your friends! Now only 19.99!"
"Tired of lagging service? Tired of outrageous bills? Try Connect for a new Internet experience, one that will make your viewing better, your streaming faster, and your enjoyment rocket towards the sky! Baradwell Tech has been hard at improving our already fantastic service!"
Clips of cars exploding and dangerous men wielding guns flash onto the screen, the final dramatic clip being a burning spaceship plummeting through the atmosphere, camera panning over the rear to show the impact site: a bustling city. The screen fades, then blazing red letters appear with Crimson, then: Download now through Connect!

An official-looking news-anchor appears on the screen, backed by shiny black paneling and sitting behind a mahogany desk. Running a hand through his greying hair and glancing down at the script, he smiles, "Hello, habitants of the solar system! Welcome to Connect news, I'm lead anchor Brian Conners. Tonight, our 'Current Events' reporter Curtis Shelding is back from the escalating situation in New Congo. We'll be handing you off for a special update on the current scenario...

The screen changes to a view of a battered looking man in a white shirt and jeans. He apologzies for his apperance, noting that his armoured departure plane had been hit with a small rocket, and the resulting explosion had caused a few minor in-flight problems. He details the horror spawned by the pulling out of troops, how the rebels were reclaiming territory rapidly, and the formidable threat they pose to world safety and the health of the nearby countries.

The program pauses for a commercial break, and then returns.

"And we're back. Thank you for the good report Curtis, and I'm saddened to hear the situation has declined to that point. Now, for the headlining stories. The President of the United States has called for a global peace summit...

A story or two later and a commercial break later...

"Welcome back. The Baradwell Organization announced today that they are going to build a colony on Mars that will be joint-run by another corporate power, Terra-Forming United. They have announced ambitious plans for the terraforming of Mars, and have expressed intent to turn it into 'a pure Earth'. Development of the colony is expected to be long, but the Baradwell Organization has announced that it is already taking applications for those who would wish to live on the Red Planet. Applications can be e-mailed to the Baradwell Organization through the Applicant link on their website. Now, for a heart-warming story of devotion and love..."

It decayed to the point where Toady locked it. Doesn't that kinda implicate we went over the top? Locking an entire forum is a response to such a mass of complaints that it kinda tells you something was going wrong in there. Should it really be replicated?

Creative Projects / A Few Short Stories: The Robespierre
« on: April 16, 2009, 12:35:11 am »
Well, I was scrounging through my computer, and I went into my Stories folder to see what I've forgotten and be pleasantly surprised with. I came up with Plague, a story I had written sometime in Grade 8(last year). Comments and criticism would be appreciated. Yes, I know it ends abruptly.

Plague
By Little

I winced as I heard the crowd scream. My eyes saw that the signs were in the air, handles slick with blood and pus from the welts and blisters on my fellow student’s hands. There were a steady thousand of us, and about a hundred or so of them. Of course, those bastards were heavily armed and not half-dead from the fucking plague like we were….

___

It had all started around two and a half weeks ago, according to the Port Pale news. Some stupid asshole of a country (I’m pretty sure it was Russia, but my memory hasn’t been that great recently, and who the fuck can blame me?) bombed Los Angles with some kind of germ and nerve gas. The thing that fucked you over was that symptoms didn’t show up for a week, and it took another three weeks to die. By then, you’d infected everyone else you’d come into contact with by even goddamn BREATHING on them. World’s a screwed up place when being breathed on is a death sentence, right?

It had hit the collage about two weeks after the bombing, with the first reports of people becoming seriously ill, and the oh-shit factor of everyone realizing that this wasn’t another cold. Another two days after that, and the reports of people dropping dead in the streets of big cities (with footage at eleven!)began to be reported, and that scared the shit out of everyone, because we all were having some odd fucking cold. The first casualty was Julia West. She just dropped dead in Physics, blood gushing out of her nose, mouth, ears, and a few other places blood shouldn’t come gushing out of. I liked Julia, I had known her quite well (I went out with her in 7th Grade), and to have her drop dead was a bitch of a shock.

The day after was the day I found my first blister, in my goddamn armpit. It scared the shit out of me, so I asked around. Turned out, everyone else had them (Tom had his in a place blister’s should never be), too. The next day, I found six more blisters, and woke up to cries of dismay and rage from Bryan and Patrick. I got up, my first blister bleeding and hurting like a bitch, and looked out the window.

The main entrance to the campus was blocked off by two large green tanks, with soldiers with what looked like gas masks and flamethrowers on sealing the place off with trucks and Jeeps. As it turned out, we weren’t allowed to leave and as Josh found out, trying to leave got you lit on fire and killed from a distance of twenty feet. That was the day we started making signs and scrounging for weapons….

___

We managed to get outside safely, thank God. We started charging, and I guess the little gang Santy had and a few of his dealer buddies had guns or something, because I heard the bang! of gunfire coming from our crowd. I couldn’t see that well, but I think a few soldiers went down before an Uzi from our side cranked in. The last thing you could hear for the next several minutes was the roar of massive mounted machineguns as the Army began to fire back. I managed to curl up into a ball beneath the stampede of screaming students. About three minutes later, the machine guns stopped. The silence had seemed ominous. A loudspeaker droned out in a heavily filtered voice: “RETURN TO YOUR CAMPUS! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LEAVE! RETURN TO YOUR CAMPUS! STAND WITH YOUR HANDS UP!”

I stood up, hands on my head, shifting because I found I was uncomfortable. I was dismayed to find out I had wet myself. I heard the moaning of the wounded, and looked around. There were bodies littering the lawn, blood smeared on the ground. I recognized a few of the dead. My eyes started to blur with tears, which obscured exactly what happened next. All I managed to see was a huge flash of flame, and I fell to the ground, swearing because the flash hurt my eyes and blinded me. I heard someone scream, in a high pitched, cracking voice: “Holy shit, Santy, what did you eat?”

I began to laugh hysterically, tears streaming down my face.

DF Suggestions / Re: Underground Diversity

I got one for you;

Heaven.

After all, dwarves are creatures of the earth, it would make sense that any afterlife they believe in (unless they worship the god of the sky I suppose) would be deep underground. This would also explain in part why the demons were chained beneath the earth; as the saying goes, keep your friends close, your tentacle demons closer.

In game, this would basically result in another form of the glowing pits, but rather than being surrounded by adamantium, the interior would be filled with some sort of wondorous (read expensive) material.

Opening the pearly gates would have no negative effect initially, but if you decided to grab the treasure, all hell (in a manner of speaking) would break loose. Leaving the pits open and unpillaged (or maybe, removing the guardians) however, would allow the dwarves to interact with their deceased. E.g. those that lost their loved ones would get happy thoughts, something like "Urist has been comforted by his mother's spirit lately", whereas deceased grudges would yield "Urist was haunted by his old foe recently".

I hate to bring up an old point, but I had a really good idea(I hope).

What about for dwarves who have had friends/family die, they could recieve a big happiness bonus. The rest of the fort would receive a mediumish happy bonus, with the exception of those whose enemies are dead(then they get negative thoughts).

As time goes on, the dwarves who were friends with someone who died spend more and more time at the 'veil', talking with their deceased loved one. Bigger and bigger happiness bonuses result, with the dwarf working faster. Your happy with this until one day, you notice Urist the miner isn't there! You search around for him and finally find him in 'heaven'. Dwarves who have happy memories of lost loved ones/friends should become eager to join them, until they eventually cross the veil and live with them forever.

Walling off heaven would result in a negative thought roughly equal to the happiness bonus the dwarves were receiving, with potential of dwarves who were close to joining their loved ones comitting suicide.
