Somehow the game has figured out that I'm trying to go for meteors, so they've stopped spawning.  I've broken a half-dozen shadow orbs and waited over an hour; no meteors landed.

Okay guys, I need some organizational assistance.  I'm trying to come up with a checklist of rare (or rare-ish) objects, and I'm not sure I've got them all.

Note: I'm not counting armor sets, except for the Cobalt shield.

Also, in terms of tool/weapon materials, here's what I have (in order):

The same for armor:

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

[edit: added Flintlock, Handgun, Musket, and Masamune]

Ha!  Genned a new world, and the underground jungle goes all the way to the surface.  Not only that, but one of the shrines actually spawned in midair, halfway up to floating-island height.

I haven't gone brick hunting in ages, so I didn't have enough green.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All those torches are just for nighttime work.

My dungeon is green, so if you want to throw up a server real quick I'll give you a stack.  Just PM me

Hm.. gray brick actually looks pretty decent when used with blue brick.

I agree, though I have yet to find blue brick.  So far my dungeon bricks have been Green or Pink.

If any of that was prompted by my screenshots, that's actually obsidian. It looks almost identical.

Good Lord, that's a lot of obsidian.  I haven't really perfected (or attempted to perfect) my obsidian collection method as yet.  So far it's been putting one block of lava on top of a stone over some water.  The lava falls, and basically spreads into 8-12 obsidian on the surface of the water.

I think I'm going to gen a world for the sole purpose of acting as my Home world - i.e., where my house is.  No mining, no looting chests, etc - just a very nice house made of materials gathered in other worlds.  Thoughts?

Two things: I am very looking forward to paying money for this on Monday.

Secondly, there doesn't seem to be a way to make wooden hammers.

he just altogether dropped what he was doing, and started kind of.. walking/jumping in circles idly. I do the same thing when I'm trying to talk to someone while playing a game. It's distracting!

I do the same thing when I'm playing a game, especially online games where I can't just pause it.  Furthermore, when I'm on the phone while standing, I invariably wind up walking in a circuit around the room.

To slightly digress to the subject of, well, the subject:

How about instead of "Minecraft + Metroid?" we just say 'Terraria... Looks like Happy!"

That seems to be the most appropriate thread title, considering that virtually everyone here wants to play this very very badly.

Magic: The Gathering (the old Microprose one). Funny thing is, I'm not even a fan of Magic in RL form (or any CCG's for that matter, with the possible exception of the old Illuminati: NWO game).

Hell yes!  I was a huge MtG nerd growing up, and the RPG CCG combo was amazing.  I wish there were more like it now - closest I've found is Culdcept, or maybe Spectromancer.

Hellgate: London

Showed such promise.  The only negativity I hold toward that game is that I plopped down cash for the lifetime sub.  Never again.

Thankfully Borderlands continues to scratch that particular itch for me.

What is pistons?
These.
I saw someone use them for vertical transport. Both player and minecarts. Also, self repairing bridge/walls. :)

Joygasm!  My only complaint with that entire video is that the lava flow is permanently distorted by the appearance/disappearance of the sand.  Instead of a nice unassuming lava moat, there are visible flows :-/  Still, as complaints go that's really minor.  Yay Pistons!

Do you think you could choose a specific limb or body part to aim at?

Based on my experience playing Dead Space, my answer is yes.  Yes I can.

Example scenario:
"Boy, that freakishly fast bad guy is barreling towards me much too quickly for me to kill him in time.  I know!  I shall shoot his leg off, thus rendering his speed moot."

Now, if I were to actually VERBALIZE that in the midst of combat, I would die immediately.  But it is instinctual!  Once you know that you CAN do something, you're good to go.  Besides, a damage system that complex could truly reward player skill.  Give a new player a +10 sword of instagibbing and put him against a veteran with a dagger - the newbie will learn that it's hard to swing a sword without tendons.

How has no one mentioned Ninja Gaiden?  On hard, you need absolute control or you're going to die horribly - as mentioned by Penny Arcade.

But Demon's Souls is a tremendously well-made game that rewards careful execution, punishes button mashing, and also has those giant bosses you were looking for.  I consider it a game worth buying a PS3 for, and I *hate* Sony.  That should tell you how great Demon's Souls is.
