Yep. Coffin.

By the way, if you have a hospital with cloth in it, they will not take that. You can take it out of the hospital and theyll use it, but not if someone takes it back before he has a chance to grab it. Lost a dwarf to that.

I even found magma only 18 z levels down, but i have no way of getting it up to the surface.

Do you have sand? If you have sand, you can create green glass blocks/tubes/corkscrews, which are magma-safe.

Thank god!

Just discovered that my embark site has no iron and the only flux is marble. I can make brass, but not bronze because i dont have tin. My military has to survive on wood, leather and trade until i hit... "candy". I even found magma only 18 z levels down, but i have no way of getting it up to the surface.

Looks like my marksdwarves are going to be getting plenty of practice.

Don't channel, is the trick.

Dig out each layer that you want to be part of your pit. Then channel out the edge of the pit on the top floor and cause it to cave in by collapsing the support underneath it (assuming you put a support underneath it, otherwise send the miners off to the hospital... or the morgue). This is a lot easier and safer method than channeling.

This.

It also looks freaking awesome. You could, just for show, rig it so that a restricted-traffic entrance to your base winds through a dozen or so Z-levels of stairs built on this sort of atomic dwarfbomb, then collapse it all in one go and take an entire siege with it.

Oh. My. God. You sir, have inspired me.

I see a lot of people talking about their 10-z level drops and i dont want to be left out. Exactly how does one go about creating them? I tried channeling several floors but that ended with 2 miners falling and breaking their legs and 3 others being crushed to death in a manner i can only describe as "terrifying".

You're a dwarf, you can describe it better than that.

And: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Channeling

1 miner fell while channeling out the well and another fell while trying to help him (how, i have no clue). As they attempted to climb out, miner 3 hit a load bearing ramp with his pick and started a cave in which knocked them off the stairs and brought number 3 with it. As the first 2 lay on the bottom wishing for death, a 4th miner starts another cave in, sending a 20x20 area of slate down 4 levels. The 3rd miner exploded when he hit a wall or some shit and the other 2 had every single bone broken before having their heads caved in (lol pun).

I did learn not to set it and forget it though.

Dear Armok... I never even considered the smell they might create from feasting of these things.

This is a finely crafted cow patty. It menaces with spikes of eyeball. It is adorned with hanging rings of tentacle. On the item is an image of dwarves in eyeball. The dwarves are retching.

Genned a new world to see if i could get a place with some metals and flux. Every single tile has an aquifer (exaggeration) while i only see 1 or 2 with flux stone. Thing is, i find flux even when the world thingy doesnt say there is.

They do this with unskilled traders. Slaughter is the best option.

Yea. Fuck Gigantic Pandas... Oh wait, were talking about capybaras?! pppfffff

Just lost my commander to a gigantic panda. Killed him almost instantly WHILE he was getting attacked by 5 other dwarves with varying weaponry. Need steel armor.

The cows are grazing again... I can tell because of all the nightmare fuel sounds echoing through the caverns.

Green glass humanoid with deadly dust. Sound familiar? Killed himself with his dust while attacking an ewe or something and sent glass flying EVERYWHERE. I have not seen parts go flying half way across a 6x6 map before.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What makes animals fight?
« on: March 31, 2011, 03:42:22 pm »
I've made max-size pastures before for my 5 camels, and they still beat on each other the entire game.

I don't understand. Does Toady not want us to grow livestock?

Yea, max size pasture doesnt help. If the animals get close to each other at all, they will fight. If they stay far away though, they remain harmless. I also had one of the animals start attacking my milker or sheerer or someone just walking by. They just dont enjoy being told to stay.
