Set a meeting area covering the places you want to clean, the dwarves will get the hint.

for every specific kind of seed, but i assume he meant 300 were his total number of seeds, not only plump helmet spawn.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Wheelbarrows
« on: May 30, 2012, 12:03:45 pm »
A wheelbarrow can only hold one item at a time, so it actually makes hauling small stuff slower.

I'm a little confused by that, since we're also told that a wheelbarrow can hold one-fifth the amount a minecart can hold. Doesn't that seem contradictory? Either they can hold one item at a time or they can hold one-fifth as much as a minecart, but how can both be true?

What am I missing?
they can hold one fifth as much as a minecart if a minecart can hold 5 items!

Possibly too dwarfish for me... i don't understand anything of this

I'm pretty sure there's a rational explanation for this behavior!

Dug into an aquifer from below..... after getting annoyed by 100000 pause-alerts from overly cautious dwarves and my ignoring them because i "know what I'm doing in dwarf fortress" they finally got their excuse to ruin the fort without having to alert me first. End result was a giant portion of the fort walled off, with dining rooms and workshops fully submerged and sprinkled with numerous floating corpses, the whole thing was pretty awesome i probably would have continued if it wasn't for new patch or something.

nttea has been unhappy lately, someone insulted his favorite game recently.
As for the town.... is it confirmed that it's a necro town? I've never actually seen or heard about anything similar before

awwww! a newbie! i want to hug you ^_^ first confusing fun of many i assume ? :)
some good emergency advice for you! you can go into the kitchen screen, enable your seeds for cooking then cook those; it should actually be a faster way to gain food than gathering plants if you need it quickly(which i assume since your dwarves are starving!) Try to make sure to disable it again though before seeds run out, but if you have been brewing cave wheat and sweet pods you should have plenty of those seeds around. or you can butcher a dog or a cat or something

Nothing in barrels rot, right? also unless your dwarfs are 100% busy all the time, set a stockpile to only accept prepared food and no barrels! Any vermin consumption is extremely negligible at least if you have a cat around(not pastured) i never tried without

Unfortunately I only have one weapon maker so he lives for now, damn shame. Especially since one of my few dwarves who work with metals just got his skull caved in by a dwarf child called wolverine (I've gotten into the habit of naming dwarves after their first kill).

Edit: It was my legendary blacksmith...that little fucker!
his first skill was... wolverine?

isn't it possible to gather clay as building material perhaps? i think it works on slopes but i've never done it and of course it would require you to have clay^^

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How do ages work?
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:05:47 pm »
generally it's a ratio of historical figures. for instance, if dwarves dominate the world, it will turn into the dwarven age. the human age, etc. the age of legends is ended by the death of significant titans, dragons, or other mythical monsters. the age of heroes is ended when most of the very strong heroes die(?) generally it's simple stuff like that. the age of emptiness when nothing is left alive. that sort of thing.
age of myth, age of legends, age of heroes are all amount of megabeasts related and age of heroes leads into the golden age when they are all dead afaik. Sometimes you get other names based on specific megabeasts or dominating civilizations too but these are the most common^^
