So, I can't get trolls and goblins in the same civilization? Meh. All I really wanted to do was be able to give trolls weapons and put them in the army. What is it about minotaurs that allows them to use weapons?

I don't put all dwarf into every skill, but I put dwarves into "classes"
Farmer - Planter, Potash Maker, Miller, Plant Gatherer, Plant Processor, Weaver, Brewer
Furnace Operator - Furnace Operator, Wood Burner
Bone Worker - Doctor, Butcher, Tanner, Cook (Tallow), Bone Crafting, Leatherworker
Metalsmith - Armourer, Weaponsmith, Metalcrafter, Blacksmith
Stoneworker - Mining, Masonry, Engraving, Stonecrafting
Woodworker - Woodcutter, Carpentry, Bowyer, Woodcrafting
I do something similar but I have a 'laborer' class which does anything where skill level is largely unimportant, like wood burning and hauling.
Important dwarves, like my Adept Armoursmith, don't haul, but most dwarves do. I like to semi-specalize tasks. Ever since I had a Swamp Titan corpse rot IN the butchery because the dwarf butchering was so unskilled and took so long, I now understand that it's nice to get things done quickly.
Could it be possible that was due to clutter withing the butcher's shop? Dwarves don't take long to butcher anything, even unskilled ones, provided the shop isn't cluttered.
The shop is ALWAYS cluttered. One kitten gives it the big pink gemstones of clutter.

So I'm trying to understand this.  My hammerdwarves attack the caravan.  Now they are enemies.  To both the Caravan and to my civvies.

So my hammerdwarves are hated by all except each other.
My civvies are hated by my hammerdwarves and the caravan

Is that right?
Every hammerdwarf is hated by each other hammer dwarf as well.
Attacking a dwarf makes the attacker an enemy, but also still a dwarf. Attacking the enemy-dwarf makes the attacker an enemy as well.

Loyalty Cascade. You have to wait for a bezerk dwarf to attack another dwarf so that he is considered "an enemy [of the state]". Since you started it, your dwarves are technically "enemies", so they will be attacked, but they're also still part of your civ so dwarves that attack them also become "enemies".
It's a free-for-all now.
You're boned. Even if dwarves survive, if they were in the fight migrants and caravan guards will still attack them.

you're lucky, waaaaaaaaaaaay to lucky,on my current fort i have about 40 giant tame badgers and 30 foxes so i'm suffering from a giant badger explosion, before those pests arrived i had 50 gooses.
I once had a bearsplosion. Black Bears AND Grizzly Bears. I just chained them all up in the enterance of my fort. As soon as a goblin showed up, it got about five more seconds to experience the joy of having limbs.
Naked Mole Dogs are the best because they breed quickly, die quickly, are tough in a fight (it's the incisors that do it, I'd imagine), and they're big enough to make them a viable food source.

Can you slaughter animals whom die of old age?
Not certain. I think any animal can be slaughtered, as long as it isn't a pet.

I had a Hunting Naked Mole Dog tear one of those in half. Litterally. She scratched it in the lower body and "the severed part sails off in an arc!"

Haha! Would that get it elligible for election, or would it have to be a dwarf? :P
Anything that can gain social skills can be mayor. My goblin fort has a Troll Mayor.

Nice. A useable item. Be thankful you didn't get a goblet or something like that.

As soon as someone goes to kill him, the War Ogres pop out of the bushes and shit all goes to hell.
