DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Just experienced the cascade of teeth bug when my water buffalos went at it(note to self, slaughter them ASAP). I've got 20+ teeth in my stockpile...now here's to hoping THEY don't rise as well(I mean....how would that even WORK?!)

OK this is starting to annoy me(and is potentially dangerous because of moods!). I've now got around 6 or so animated shells running around! Yeah, they're not dangerous at all, but they ARE interrupting my dorfs, and having to atom smash every shell as my fisherdorfs work is gonna be VERY aggravating. Are you SURE Toady meant for SHELLS to reanimate? I'm wondering if I should post a bug report....

Yes I'm in an evil area so I know about that resurrection thing(refer to previous posts about annoying barn owl corpse in courtyard). My surprise is from I thought for something to rise it at least needed [CAN_GRASP]

Heh, finally got that barn owl corpse moved from my courtyard(as simple as turning on outside refuse!), and so it's been atom smashed. Now I've set up a fishery(thanks to an immigrant fisherdorf coming along) and all the sudden I get this:

Urist McDorf cancels pasture Large Animal: Interrupted by mussel shell. Whut

Yeah abandoned that emark, now I'm on a haunted swamp with infernal murks. Good news: All it does is make my dorfs vomit. Bad news; still a lot of undead, though this time I've got a perimeter wall up, so I'm not too worried(though I need to roof it at some point). Though, right now I have a barn owl corpse chillin in my courtyard, and since my dorfs refuse to touch it, I'm at a loss on how to permanently get rid of it. Ideas? (It's more of an annoyance than anything right now since I've pastured all my wardogs next to it, so whenever it reanimates it gets dogpiled)

DAMN RAVENS KEEP REVIVING AND PREVENTING ACCESS TO BOOZE! I can't move my stocks underground before another revives and I'm forced to kill it with my VERY thirsty and unhappy militia dorfs

I just got an adequate bone doctor who's also an adept axedorf(3 guesses what he's gonna be doing as soon as I get some metalworkers!). I stroll over to his thoughts and prefs, notice he's got some kills and check...163 kills?! Awesome!

Just got my first eerie mist...though I don't know what it does since it completely missed my dwarfs(even if I HADN'T ordered them underground!), so oh well, loving DF 2012(DFVD is a HORRIBLE name guys! DF does NOT have a venereal disease -_-) though I got brutally murdered 5 minutes into every adventure so far...

Edit: Got another cloud of mist, and this time my dorfs were caught in it. Looks like so far I lucked out and all it does is cause unconsciousness....

Lol, I'd just come back to this thread to edit my post that I had found it by looking up beehive barrier on TvTropes when you posted the name of the game. It is indeed S.C.A.R.A.B. I don't seem to be able to find any info on if it is still around though, it was a pretty fun game to play, and online mech battle games are a rare breed for some reason.

Ok, there is this one game that was pretty fun that I played waaaaayy back, it was a mech combat game that had an egyptian theme to it. You had these beehive barrier shields that you had to punch holes in, and the thing I remember most are these ankhs that floated above points on the map that you could shoot, and if you did they would fall and explode( I once hit one with a guided missile to blow up a guy hiding in a passageway!). I know the thing had an egyptian god's name, but searching  that on the internet has so far proved useless...

Goblins are starting to notice the fort of Goldsenses(very apt name the RNG gave me, as I'm swimming in native gold!). Two squads sieged today, one of lashers and one of axegobs, lead by a small squad of blizzard men(not seen gobs bring blizzard men before!),with all gobs mounted on elk birds. I pull everyone inside, tell my ballista operators to ready their weapons, and wait as the gobs hit my small line of cage and weapon trabs over the volcano. Despite not having very many traps(a double line of 5 weapon traps for ten total, fronted by 4 cage traps) none of the squads make it over before a lot of them get diced (and hurled into the volcano) and they give up and go home, leaving me to suspect dodge traps are pretty OP. I might just rip them out(except for the cage traps) and have the bridge be a shooting gallery for my crossbow squad.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The DF2010 Little Questions Thread

My bone carvers and weaponsmiths are constantly complaining about art defacement because some random goblin wandered off the map with one of their masterwork bolts in his butt. Any way to prevent this--short of not using my crossbow squad?
The more masterworks a dwarf has created, the milder the bad thought for losing one is.
So if you crank out a large amount of masterworks your dwarves won't be too depressed about losing some of them.

Oh, so THAT's why when I accidentally dumped my siege engineer's one masterwork catapult part(out of the 90 or so I had lying around from training him up) he went berserk! Good to know in the future.

Now, my question is certainly gonna be a favorite. What pisses off the elves more, seizing goods from the traders, offering wooden goods, or outright killing the traders? And don't answer with killing the diplomat, I do that already

somewhat unrelated question: Quietust, can you give me a link on how to patch Df according to that report? I have no idea how....

Heh, whenever I embark on a sand layer, ALL my weapon traps are masterwork glass discs. A long row of these tends to reduce invaders to a fine chunky salsa(if they don't fall off, of course). Though, as stated, if you actually want invaders to die in the first few traps, metal is needed.

Question: Does armor have any (negative or positive, besides the obvious)effect at all on markdorfs, or am I alright in giving my crossbowmen the same armor my melee squads use? I'd like to have one general armor template, and use my leather for bags and stuff

Ah. Thanx for the info. I'll see if I can find some whip vines outside and brew them
