Other Games / Re: Third World Farmer

Except that most roguelikes can be even worse, and this game fails to properly emuate either reality or a decent game (choices monthly at least, more but smaller events, community options extending to AI players, decisions(strike back at the invaders with shapened tools? Keep funds hidden offsite for emergencies? Reinforce the well to prevent collapse? Partial disasters? Move to a different country? Start a shoe factory of child labour and become rich working for <company> on the corpses of the "unfortunate" babies that were worked to death? Orbital nuclear obliteration?)...

The only point I can see, and it is quite sad, is that sometimes poor, reality deluded, game designers try to make a point with a game that hilariously is neither a decent game nor the intended message.
Couldn't they have had the classic "holding shift when making something keeps it selected for rapid construction"?

Those forums actually aren't that great. They give an error when you try to view page two of a sub-forum, but not page 1 or 3+.

No, extra-zesty supervillain is forced to try to keep a thread on topic for more than two pages... At 50 posts per page.

What about it would limit what you can make with rules?

Dwarf Fortress

-------- (Other projects)

Community

Can't have the Dwarf Fortress Community without both, but most people pick either the upper or the lower sections and tend to spend most of their time there. We are currently in the more community oriented section, a place where te average topic, if it were a vehicle, would be designed for off-road usage, and frequently need it.

qwerty, I just wanted to apologize that your first one didn't pass. Personally, I didn't like the idea because the terms are pretty generally well-understood and I didn't like the idea that someone could change the words and make them mean different things. I guess that could be done now, but it's a little more difficult to change words that are implicitly defined than explicitly done so. I can't speak for Wimdit or ExKirby, but that's my reasoning. :P

I didn't consider the possibility of redefinition...

With that in mind, I propose:

(edit: this version is outdated)
# - Defined syntax, second attempt.
#.A - There shall be a list of terms and definitions that may optionally be used within rules to add clarity, etc.
#.A.I - The list will be maintained alongside but not as a part of the official rule list.
#.B - Each entry in the list must specify one type:
#.B.I - Clarification
#.B.I.a - This merely ensures that everyone interprets a word or phrase the same way, and should closely match it's use in the English language. It requires a unanimous vote to change one.
#.B.II - Variable
#.B.II.a - This term is intended to change often, and only requires majority support to alter.
#.B.III - Important
#.B.III.a - These are terms that should not change very often, and thus require 80% support to alter.
#.B.IV - Very important
#.B.IV.a - These are terms that should not change very often, and thus require unanimous support to alter.
#.C - Addition and removal
#.C.I - To add or remove a term requires the same support as altering it would require.
#.D - When a term is used
#.D.I - All terms must be visually distinct from regulat occurances of the phrases they use. This distinction should be in the form of colour, font, cap8italization, or font decoration, and it must make the term visually distinct from any phrase previously used within the rules.
#.D.I.a - Without exactly matching the visual distinction and text of a term, any otherwise similar phrase will remain unaffected by the definition contained within the list.
#.E - This rule is initially immutable.

(edit: this version is outdated)

This is how the old one ended:

I'll probably get around to updating the first post eventually.

I'm leaving my company unpassworded, and encourage others to join it if they want. Don't waste money, don't simply join to steal money, and leave plenty of signs for others.

I have a single trainline getting a decent profit, although it isn't much.
Any others joining the company are encouraged to build, although until profit is at least one million per year, please don't waste anything, and even then, keep wasted money to a minimum.

This is, without a doubt, the fastest I've ever seen a thread derail.

This took longer than average to derail. In fact, back in the old days, they would derail twice before the first reply! These days, it's off topic before the first word...

322 - Yea
323 - Yea
324 - Yea
325 - Nay
326 - Yea
327 - Yea
328 - Yea
329 - Yea
330 - Yea

I see FUN results from the bonus votes (Especially because a missing 'nt forces you to use any extreme number or none at all)

Except that they are removed once read, so it must only go over <perimeter> entries. For a 256x256 square, that will remain fairly low, under 2000, and for oddly shaped other things, it will depend on the shape, but still shouldn't be that bad.
The biggest issue I see is that often it will reallocate when a simple move would be adaquate.

Agh, and I forgot the most important one of all, the check to see that target colour != fill colour.

With or against?

If we were with him against a common enemy...
