Or at least close to it.
So far the best I've gotten was a mod that let me play as a Bronze Colossus and storm a tower but eventually I'd die.
So is there a way to do this (I don't have any mods on my game) or do I have to mod in a race to play as and make them invincible (if so, how can I do that, at least?)

Oh and I'd rather them not be abnormally strong, like punching elephants for several squares and if possible, I'd them them to have teeth and grasping limbs.

I tend to have two miners, a mason, a carpenter, a woodcutter/plant gatherer, a leader with book keeping and a sort of general farmer/cook.

What I tend to do is get the miners to mine out the basic rooms, then I get them to get to the magma sea and after that it's a sort of... just build traps and metal stuff.

Oh and traps, many traps. And if you're being really funny, you'll train up a doctor using immigrants.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Adamantine bolt exploit?
« on: September 24, 2011, 05:14:38 pm »

The primary difference between an exploit and a cheat is this:

An exploit can typically be used through in-game methods.
A cheat typically uses outside-the-game methods.

I'm sorry but cheats are programmed into the game. Now if you mean something like hacking with something like cheat engine, yes that cheat isn't intended. But button codes or a level select being unlocked are cheats. Cheats are generally put into the game by the programmers.

Some people like finding ways to bend the rules without outright breaking them.  Thus the word "exploit":  You're exploiting the way the game works in a way that wasn't intended.

Exploits and cheats are the same thing. You're getting around intended game rules one way or the other. It's only the type of method and deniability that varies... but why bother lying to yourself in a single player game? If you're doing it on purpose, you're cheating.

I disagree completely. A cheat to me is something like "hit these buttons and get infinite ammo, etc".
An exploit *still* requires some skill, sometimes. I mean okay, the dupe exploit in Oblivion takes little to no skill, at all.

The tougher an exploit is then the people feel that it's *okay* to use since technically, they having to earn it. Personally, I'd have just modded it in but each person is different.

Three Inches of Blood: Wykydtron
Warning, it's screamo (loud metal).

It's basically about a poster the band saw and they wrote a song about it.

Anyway, it's about a cyborg several hundreds of years into the future. It reminds me of DF about the guy who made a computer in it.

I feel one day, we will make a cyborg.

Oh and: Axes of Evil by the same band.

Oh and deadly sinners by the same band also.

A lot of metal would actually suit the game.

DF Gameplay Questions / Do walls block out most things? Spoilers
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:56:17 pm »
As in stuff from the caverns.

Basically, I wanna tunnel down to the GMS and if I do break into a cavern (since I don't want to use any cheats at all such as dfreveal)... can I just make walls (with a mason) and it'll block out anything that flies? Assuming there is still a celling above the wall?

Oh and assuming walls can't be destroyed: I was thinking of having a bit of sunlight shinning on one of my main working areas (so the dwarves don't get that sickness thing from being underground too much). But will sieges or anything come with things that can destroy the walls?

I know it's cheating but I really don't care; I just want to have my fort last more than a year without me being bored.

The biggest problem is that I run out of fuel for wood burning and I really don't feel like trying to navigate the damn caverns to get to the GMS.

So, using DFLiquids, I can create magma but it doesn't give me the ability to build magma smelters/forges. So is there something specific I need to do?

8
Ah, indeed it does work! I have no idea what I did last time, probably left a damn ramp up. Thanks for you help.

Hiya, basically my volcano is about... 6 Z levels above where I embarked. What I want to do is just take *some* of the magma down a few levels.

Or rather, create a channeled area where I can place a magma forge over it.

The problem is, the only thing I can think of is channeling the area and removing the ramps but even if I create stairs to get my mine back out, the magma would still go up the stairs, right?

So with the exception of using doors or floodgates... what can I do?

Anything!
Literally. Anything you like.

You can try to dig deeper and take on some cavern stuff. Try build up your wealth or population to get a titan or siege. Lots of things.

Or... if you're anything like myself, you'll just try to hope for the best and build a huge fortress.

The chart I gave you gives you a basic idea.

The thing is, as a newcomer, you need to get the basics right down.

It's sort of like saying... okay, I go through door A, it doesn't give me as big a challenge or as big a pay off, but it teaches me things.

Once you get the basic build down (it will differ a lot at times), you can go after different things.

That's what I would go by (I skip the military since I haven't bothered to learn it yet :P)

For the most part, you want a woodcutter, a carpertner, a mason, a miner (ideally 2), a farmer/brewer/herbalist (you can make your wood cutter your herbalist also) and I think you would be okay with that much.

I mean, really, all you have to do is get a farm with plump seeds, make food, make alcohol and build a meeting hall and eventually some beds. Honestly, my fortresses seemed fine like that for the starters.

Well, you have one of two choices (from what I understand of your situation).

You can dig "up" stairs. Just press 'd' and then I believe it is 'u', you just place it over a rock, as you do with minning.

Or, you can build up stairs which is 'b', 'C', 'u'. Keep in mind you need to have down (or up/down) stairs connected. You do this by going to the Z level above where you created the up stairs and just pressing, d, 'j' (or 'u' for up/down stairs).

I don't believe you can carve stairs up to the next level though I may be wrong I simply havent ever done it since you used to not be able to at least.

No, I've done it just now. You can mine out upwards stairs and then the level above it, you just mine the downward stairs and they Dwarves will mine them out from the level below.

Don't tell him to dig deeper! He'll have too much fun.  :D

Get a military and hospital set up right away. Then either dig deeper or make much wealth and get a population and prepare for a siege. Or, go find some magma by digging deeper and have a lot of fun.
