candy spears. in at least one fort I had, I had tons of candy. huge underground spire of the stuff. so I would make equipment for all my fighters, then a few decorations, and then Id churn out 5 or 6 spears. the spears when they we masterwork go for about... 105,000 DB you can trade for everything a caravan has for a single candy spear. by the end of that forts lifetime, the dwarves were all decked out in foreign jewels and they were using elven crafts to fuel their hearths. every child had golden trinkets brought from the mountainhomes, every wife had silver and platinum finery, and every husband could enjoy a mug of the finest booze from all over after a hard days work, putting his feet up on a nether-cap footstool and whiling away the hours thinking on subjects such as art, literature, and !!SCIENCE!!. unfortunately, I got worried about the spire I was digging from and decided to move to another one. a single strike of the pick, and the circus came to town, they brought all the jugglers, clowns, the bearded lady, and the dog faced boy. ah, good times... anyways, what Im trying to get at is, always have a few spare candy spears on hand.

0.0 hey what are 'candy spears'?

SPOILER: MAY RUIN A NEWBIES DWARF FORTRESS EXPERIENCE, PROCEED WITH BOOZE AND MAGMA.

after her dad rubber-banded the cat's balls

That's...That's fucked up.

Not really. You either did it that way, or cut them out. With the rubber band the balls lose circulation, and just eventually fall off. A lot nicer than a potential death from blood loss.

I honestly want this game, seriously. I would love to play it, drool on it and sleep with it. But I can't. I have a shitty Internet connection that loves to disconnect every 15 minutes and is heavily limited (200 MB/24 hours). I wouldn't be able to play this game at all. Kinda sad, but such is the life of living in the boonies. I'd rather stay on my farm with my family than move to some crappy apartment in some crappy city.

Sorry Diablo III, I'm going for Skyrim. Wait, hold on. Is Skyrim the new Elder Scrolls game, or is it Notch's new Scrolls game? ARGH! I'm so confused!

It's a carp. And i dislike being called an animal fucker. whatever the weird ones do the worst anybody i know has done is met up in pubs, got drunk and acted mostly normal. That is all.

Alright, I'm sorry dude. Nowhere did I state you were an "Animal Fucker." I made  a mistake, and I didn't realize what "Furry" actually meant. I thought it meant actual animals, not animal-people. Hell, I'm a Lolicon, but that doesn't mean that I'm a pedophile. I am sorry, what I said was stupid and childish.

On topic although, I hope I can get some help. I have two guinea pigs (Both male) that won't stop fighting! They have plenty of space (Four feet by four feet), and lots of food and bedding. There are no females around, so what's going on? I mean, they've been ripping fur out of each other! I've separated them for now although. My little sister is at her mum's right now, and she's the one who knows about them. Maybe I should just phone her...Then she'll mock me.

DUN. DUN. DUUUUUUN.

JAAAWS..."Don't enter the water!"

Oh gods...That picture reminds me of a really old move, "Attack of the killer piranha" or something like that. Hilariously stupid, damn...Wait, is that a carp? It looks more like a bloody trout to me. Actually, maybe a perch, I dunno. Heh, I remember when I was about 9, I was fishing with my mum and dad. I got a good four-foot pike on the end of my line, and my dad had to reel the bugger in. When mum was taking a picture (I was holding it up, dad helping), the thing started thrashing and hit me in the, er, manly parts. It hurt.

Edit: Wait, is that a Lamprey?

Oh, and sorry if I insulted you. I looked up the definition, furry does NOT mean zoophilia. I take back what I said, being furry is fine. I totally read it wrong, it's my fault.

I've played DF for around half a year now, and never breached hell. I didn't trust that adamantine after a "Friend" told me to mine it out. Sure, I may have chipped some off, but that's fine. My fortresses almost always die due to starvation/loss of booze/cats/drowning...Only lost two to sieges, maybe I should stop turtling. I wish I could go back to the very beginning...Ah. I can't believe on my first game I brought twelve cats, 10 female 2 male, and a bunch of food and booze, but no dwarves with skills. I lasted til year two (Three?), when an ettin suddenly popped up and smashed dwarves. My first artifact (in that fort) was a platinum chair. Badass thing it was.

I ramble a lot.

Man, rats ARE awesome. My mother once had a pet white rat, and the thing was adorable. He would sleep on the pillow with her at night, and nose her awake in the morning. He'd sit there and listen to you, no matter what you talked about. I mean listened, as in sitting down and staring right at you. Poor guy got eaten by the our apartment neighbors cat, Miss Mew. Poor rat...I don't even remember his name, I think I was what, 3? 4? Maybe 5. Dunno, really.

@Wannazzaki: So, furries AREN'T people who have sexual fantasies about sex with animals? Or is that Zoophilia (Or whatever it's called)? Isn't that like the "Lolicon vs Pedophile" argument? Didn't mean to offend, but anybody who sees a fluffy kitty as a sexual object is nasty in my eyes.

This has been massively de-railed. On topic although, I know far too well the dangers of rodents. I once woke up and checked on the critters, and in the hamster cage, there was only a single hamster. A very, very fat hamster. The other hamster was missing. The fat hamster was content.

Guinea pigs though, man those guys are retarded. They squeak, shit, eat and sleep. Nothing else. Also: Ew, furrys. Animal rapists...

About how long does one game year take in real time for y'all? I have this weird feeling that my games are moving really slowly. About two hours from embark, I haven't yet reached autumn.

I'm on my ninth year in my current fortress, and if I just leave it running (Which I usually do), a year is about 30 minutes. Maybe you need a new computer?

Hah, never-mind!

Well, as long as your vampires are decently ghoulish, I can stop my raving. But I must say, "Ordinary" vampires (Moreso ghouls than anything else) are how I described. Pureblood vampires, the Nosferatu are as you described. If a Vampire drains a living, non-virgin human of it's blood, it becomes a ghoul. Ghouls will generally be subservient to the Vampire, acting on it's whim with little thoughts of their own. But, when a Vampire drinks the blood of a virgin, and gives them their blood, then they become a Nosferatu, or one of the "True Vampires." A good example is why a lot of fiction has child vampires, due to their pure blood. Still, if a Nosferatu fully drains even a virgin human, without giving some of it's blood itself, they become a ghoul.

Bram Stoker's (Or whatever his name is) "Dracula" is a good description of a Nosferatu. Powerful and deceitful, they lust for the life of the living and have control of the dead and dark magic.

Explanation good?
Hm... sounds an awful lot like vampires from the anime Hellsing.

Regardless, most traditional vampires were either walking blood-drinking corpses, many variants were said to be ~weaker~ than a healthy human man, and thus only able to feed on sleeping or helpless victims.

Other variants had shape-shifting powers or other superhuman abilities, such as unnatural strength.

Most vampires were killed by fire, beheading or nailing the corpse to the coffin (with iron nails or a stake for example). Most vampires were nocturnal (Bram Stoker's Dracula included) but were not actually harmed by sunlight, although possible weakened. Burning in sunlight is something Hollywood made up when they created "Nosferatu" after being denied the use of Dracula for their movie.

Nosferatu likely comes from the greek word "nosophoros" which means "disease bearer". Bram Stooker thought it meant "not dead", but no proof of prior use like that has been found to my knowledge.

So that I can get back to my Fortress, in one word: Yes. You're more right than I was, but meh. Oh, and now that I think about it, you're right...It IS similar to Hellsing. I haven't seen that in ages though...Wonder if a new OVA came out?

All this talk of which vampire is the true is moot. Besides the fact there is none, as they don't exist, DF's vampires will have a good number of its traits (tolerance of the sun for example) randomly generated.

DF Vampires should have randomized strengths and weaknesses. A super strong, fast-healing clawed vampire that's also kinda slow and burns when touching water? Heh. I would prefer werewolves though. Er, Weredorfs, I guess. Armok knows they have enough hair as it is already!

If the next version gives us the ability to create vampire "breeds", how long will it take for some one to mod in DF style vampire courts?

Rowanas...Those are some very strange vampires you have there. I guess that's generic fantasy for you, though. Quite bland and tasteless, if I may say so myself. Everybody has their own version of monsters, I guess that those are yours.

This is pure sarcasm or utter idiocy. I am not sure which one is more amusing.

Oh, it's definitely stupidity.
