DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / 33 year old children
« on: November 17, 2012, 02:00:04 am »
I was meandering about the descriptions of one of my peasant-turned-miner dwarves today, and wondered if he had any family members who survived the terror of a (long overdue) vile force of darkness. I found that he didn't, but he did have an older sister who was marked as a child. He is 32.

Somehow she is still marked as a child even though she is 33 years old. She seems to fit the fitting image of an adult whom the dwarves would call a child, I suppose. Is this common? Can it be weaponized?
Could it be possible for a dwarven child to die of old age?

General Discussion / Pax Prime goers
« on: August 20, 2012, 01:15:14 am »
Dwarf Fortress players don't seem to be the type of people to go to PAX, but I made a thread last year and there was some interest by some people. Should we concoct some sort of meetup or something? I'm not positive that I'll be going yet, but I figured that I'd get the conversation started WAAAY early.

Other Games / Lost Souls: a very old MUD
« on: August 05, 2012, 03:31:29 pm »
The denizens of this forum are bound to be much more knowledgable and interesting on the topic of MUDs than I am, but I didn't see a thread discussing it anywhere and figured that I should make one. A game that's 22 years in the making is something that I didn't know was possible, but as I tread deeper into the nerdy side of gaming, I'm finding that that is so.

Though not as in depth as DF, lost souls looks like it has a magnificent amount of detail and depth, at least from what I've seen of it.

No, not the drug, the insane japanese-only ps1 game.
It looks like randomness, but there is a curious logic behind it...

Of course y'all will be wanting a link...

Google it, then come back here.

General Discussion / Rise and Decline of the Third Reich

It's a board-wargame, featuring the entire western WWII fight. If you want to look at it it's easy enough to google, but I would think that df players would enjoy this game because of its complexity.

Hello DF people, PAX Prime is in Seattle this weekend and I was wondering if anyone else on the forums is going. Is Toady one going?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Old versions
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:50:09 am »
I've been looking for some of the old versions of Dwarf Fortress, but I haven't been able to find any.

Does anyone know where I could find downloads of early versions?

DF Suggestions / Books...
« on: May 31, 2011, 08:45:49 am »
Hello all. I'm still relatively new to the game, but I'd like to offer my petty suggestion...
I'm a Minecraft player as well, and I was wondering if there could be books and bookshelves in Dwarf Fortress. There'd be a new profession- bookmaking- and books could be written from a craftsdwarves workshop. Books could be stored in chests, or maybe even read by the dwarves in their free time. Bookshelves could be made with 1 log as well as a book. Imagine how much deep and intriguing it would be if you visited your fortress in adventure mode and found libraries of mysterious dwarven lore...

My apologies if this has already been posted somewhere, I didn't see anything...
