DF Gameplay Questions / Glass Industry

I am trying to get some glass production going, spesifically some large serrated discs.

However, I alwasy get complaing aobut not having sand bearing containers. I bought a few, and I still get complaints, and I am triyng to make some leather bags, but sitl lget complaints. Is tehre some trick to this?

I got a pretty outright bitch dutchess that has a fetish for pig iron items, and clear galss items.

Since you get to pick which dwarf becomes duchess, you have nobody to blame but yourself for ending up with one who likes unobtainable materials.  My Baron likes iron and pig tail cloth.

Indeed. There is the whole new to DF thing as well, suffice it to say next time I will not do such a thing. Then again she was my mayor, and I got promoted to a barony pretty quickly and before she did anything too outrageous, and I did not pay it any heed back then. Getting a working military was more of a concern of mine in the start :D

It has been a very interesting learning fort if nothing else :)

Apparently my justice screen under z have about 14 dwarfs who was on the list of getting a beating. All but two of them are now dead... :P

Rainbow Mushroom Land is the HFS you'll find at the top end of the world instead of at the bottom

that makes things too easy
I once watched in vague amusement as a pair of Axe Lords wiped out the entire wave of HFS
... All they had was a masterwork steel axe and a wooden shield... =/

Hehe, and I just watched my enire axe suqad (armed with cotton candy axes and amror, mind you) get beaten by 1 single goblin hammer lord with a masterwork silver war hammer. Luckily they only broke lots of bones and no heads. So they are healing up again. Had to assing my two other squads to kill the goblin before he got to my dining room.

Skill is very importent it seems.

But I do not get this:

Clown Land I think I am familiar with, but not Rainbow Mushroom Land, can anyone explain that? ;)

I am looking into glass production, but I got no iron other then what I import. And pig iron items? All I am trying to do is make steel form pig iron, and pig iron from iron to appease her. Sometimes it works, but I am importing this stuff, so I do not have it at hand... :P At least her export ban mandates on the same stuff works out nicly.

This fort is actually comming close to 15 years. Not too shabby for my 3. fort in DF I think, and I am hoping to get a monarch soon.

All the dwarves are happy in my fort, except her. I have bascially engraved everything, even my excecution chamer were I build goblin cages for practise for the new recruits. Funnily enough she got real happy after my two dwarves got hacked to bits.

But one thing is certain, I am reassigning my captain of the guard to my axe squad now. I might make another dofus the captain eventually... but if it is only to appease my dutchess... :D I mean, everyone in the fort is happy as can be, except her, and she is the only one that has thrown a tantrum in the 7 years since I kind of lost 50 dwarves to a failed attack.

And yeah, lol! the cotton candy axe was a bad idea. I had the impression that the captain iof the guard was this kind of elite squad in defending my fort, and being so dedicated that they would also uphold law and order in my own fort. But the several pages report of him hacking away at my jewler showed me how wrong I was. not just one hack, but pages of it... :)

How does he really work? I get hat they are the ones that uphold law and such, but sometimes it seems rnadom.

I just assinged one, and the first thing he did was hack two other dwarves to bits. Goodbye my only legendary jewler, and other random guy.

It might not have been a good idea, but I gave him a clownite axe. It was very effective at severing limbs...

I am thinking of taking him off the captain of the guard and putting him in my axe squad, since he came with osme decent skill (new immigrant).

There was another fort before this one. It also found a tent. The clowns could not take a joke :S

There is no checkmark on the shirts, despite me having pelnty of them. They are just lying there in the stockpile.

I got a follow up question on uniforms. I have made a few OK ones. But just to make 100% sure, I only need to add 1 greaves and 1 gauntlet in the uniform menu? I see I sometimes find a left one and a right one. But do I need to assign two of them for my dwarves to be fully protected?

I usually add 3 mail shirts, but is that overkill, is 2 sufficient?

My defualt one is this:

breastplates
mail shirts
mail shirts
mail shirts
cloaks
cloaks
helms
greavs
gauntlets
high boots
shields



I assing everything except shields and clokas (leather) to a spesific metal. Did I miss anything? Weapons I add manaually afterwards usually, unless I make a complete "steel axe guard" of "clownite sword guard" etc.
