Old books, some from before the Reckoning? While she still wasn't sure how much she liked Fer's brothers, they'd have to physically bar her from the library to keep her away from a prize like that.

: "Many hands make light work, as they say. I would be happy to assist as well."

Milly looks thoughtfully for a moment.
"That simply won't...d-do."
"....w-what would you say to me, um, teaching you about things?"
Something rare occurred: 42-1's face lost its usual expression of polite indifference and instead looked slightly puzzled.

: "You wish to teach me things? I suppose I have no objections, but what sort of things would you teach?"

Serena was screaming her head off about something, but in the absence of any orders the homunculus decided it wasn't anything he needed to worry about.

: "She sounds excited about something."

Perhaps there was something to what the others were saying, about familiar objects bringing memories back. As Gregor took up a lance from one of the many racks scattered about, the wood and metal seemed to warm under his fingers. Making a few experimental sweeps and lunges with the weapon, it became clear that the lance wasn't merely a tool for fighting; to him, it was a part of his own body. It spun in his hands, dancing about before executing a perfect stab into a handy straw dummy.

Muscle memory, Gregor thought to himself. Even if he had no real recollection of any training, clearly he was - or had been - an accomplished spearfighter. He tried a few other weapons, but none of them had the same feel in his hands and the magic items failed to do anything at all. Well, that pretty much confirmed he wasn't a mage of any sort. His sister, though...

Wait, hold on. He had a sister? Yes, he did! A sister, and two brothers. Their names escaped him, but Gregor knew his sister was a mage and his brothers were accomplished knights. He was pretty sure he himself was the youngest of the lot. This would be an interesting story to tell them, if he even remembered it when he got back to his world.

Putting his memories on hold for the moment, Gregor stocked up with several different lances, including one balanced for throwing in case he needed to hit something more than a few feet away. He also took up a small shield - more for deflecting than for blocking - and a few bottles of what looked (and smelled) like medicine.

Gregor takes the following:
Iron Greatlance
Silver Javelin
Pike
Concoction
There was a Shield Ring here but BMM42 hates fun.

Magic always had to be complicated, didn't it? Well, at least the man hadn't ignored the question. That was probably a good sign, right?

: "I guess we'll have to take your word for it."

: After all, if he's lying we won't remember it anyway.

As Gregor followed along and listened to the Guardian's explanation of their purpose, a terrible idea began to take shape in his mind. As the bearded man mentioned more world hopping, Gregor couldn't keep it to himself any longer.

: "Whoa, whoa! Hold on a moment."

: "We've already lost our memories once, and frankly I'd rather not repeat that. If we go hopping around different worlds and coming back here over and over again, won't we keep waking up with no recollections?"

: "I don't want to be pessimistic, but they have a point Sir Friedman. Even if each of us is a champion at arms or a master of magic, that's an entire army out there. I think you should run that Ritual of yours a few more times, at least bolster the number of defenders."

1027
: "None taken, ma'am. He created me to serve him for the rest of his life, so he only taught me what was necessary. Perhaps he intended to get around to rhea eventually." The stuffed-animal man caught up around that moment.

1028
: "I have never been to school, ma'am. My former master taught me much but he was mostly focused on his work." Upon hearing that the merchant would indeed be interested in food, 42-1 bowed.

: "It will be no trouble at all, ma'am. I'm certain I can persuade the tavern's cook to let me use the facilities."

Gregor removed the monocle and peered around, then replaced it.

: "Well, unless the summoning broke something in my eye, it's real. Everything goes blurry without it."

1030
Privately, 42-1 agreed. It was, indeed, rather absurd. Still, it wasn't his place to say.

: "Not really, ma'am. I have not heard of rhea until today, and I know only what you and Sir Jarvis have told me.

"...sugar water is not an ideal diet, ma'am. Perhaps once we reach the tavern I will be able to prepare a proper meal for you."

1031
: "I'm sorry, but I have no idea. I just met her today. She claims to be a goddess, so perhaps that explains things." 42-1 cocked his head to the side.

: "Is rhea truly that powerful? Perhaps I have underestimated its value."

: "Well, this is certainly an odd bunch of people to wake up alongside. Feels comfortable somehow, though." Suddenly, the monocled man recalled his name, and decided it would be polite to introduce himself.

: "I'm...Gregor. Gregor von Hexham. Pleased to meet you all, though I could wish for better circumstances."

1033
: "Oh yes, that is what she said. One million for each companion, I believe were the terms."

1034
: "Oh, I see. Well, one million rhea was the offer Miss Serena was making to her companions for performing some task for her. It involved someone called the Demon Lord, I believe. Anyway, that's why I asked. Perhaps she'll be willing to extend you the same offer."

1035
: "I think I'll go back up Astera. He...or she...or, whatever could probably use a hand. Or a fireball."
