Amberly hesitated, sensing that prevailing opinion seemed to be against her. She had never been trained in missionary work, as the assumption had been that she would remain at the convent, and this situation had her momentarily stupefied.

: "I had not realized that so few worshiped the Old Gods. I apologize for speaking so rudely. Please, can we stop this discussion? Many things have happened in the past day and I believe we need time to absorb this new knowledge." Amberly lowered her head, staring at the ground and hoping that she hadn't made people angry.

Staple foods? Any sort of sliced bread (sourdough is my favorite, but I mix it up frequently), sliced turkey, cheese (mostly cheddar, but again I mix it up a lot), fruit (apples and oranges for the most part), peanut butter (lots), strawberry jelly/jam/preserves...

Amberly responded to the priest with a slight huffiness that would never have been permitted at the convent.

So few people had seen her face in so many years, and those few were good friends. What if she were considered horrifically ugly by these people's standards? That was unlikely. But a decade of habits (she smiled a bit at the unintended joke) died hard. She left her face coverings intact.

: "Anyway, you are a follower of Undine? The Old Gods might not have been deities in the traditional sense, but at least they had immortal abilities and were not of this world. Undine was unmistakably human, and humans most certainly cannot be gods. You have no room to judge on that score."
