Amberly winced a little at that news.

: "I...see. Thank you for the forewarning, but it doesn't explain how I might be useful. On the contrary, it seems like my presence here might hurt your 'situation' instead."

1112
: "I'll be happy to help in any way I can, of course. What would you need from me?"

1113
: "Well, you surprised me as well, so I suppose we're even."

: "I can tell you about it later, if you like. In the meantime, would you mind showing me around your family's famous library? I only just got here, myself."

I've heard mostly good things about it. Haven't seen it personally, but that's more because I don't have Netflix.

Could you take a flight to Atlanta and use Ubers or whatever to get around?

: "Ah, here we are!" Amberly finally extracted a pouch of gold and exchanged it for her tomes, which she stuffed back into her bag. "That minister of the king's, Paon, was handing these out. I volunteered to go into the city and look for members of the party to give them to." Fer was stammering...something?

: "Face? I don't quite--oh, of course. You, er, probably haven't seen me like this before."

Privately, Amberly worried that perhaps something was wrong with her face - Fer did seem rather flabbergasted. A creeping sense of deja vu also made the nun wonder if she'd done something wrong without meaning to, again.

Amberly had been so absorbed in the books that she hadn't even noticed her fellow mage until he said something, practically in her ear.

: "Eek! Oh, it's you, Fer."

: "I suppose this must be your family's place after all. Unless there's another library in this city owned by a different Jasso family, and you prefer to do your shopping there. Well, this is convenient; I have something for you here..." The nun began rummaging through her bag, handing used tomes to Fer for him to hold.

I feel like if coastal areas are flooding sufficiently that refugees are hopping on boats, there won't be many iceburgs to get fresh water from.

No matter who Amberly asked on the street, everyone said the same thing when she asked for recommendations in magic stores: the library. This confused the nun, until she found the place and noticed price lists in the windows. Clearly, this establishment sold tomes as well as keeping them for study. Perhaps the store was merely a side project?

It wasn't until she was about to head inside that she noticed the name of the place and, presumably, the owners.

: "Jasso? Could this be?...Surely not."

Stepping through the door, Amberly was immediately struck by the nostalgic aroma of paper, ink, and leather bindings. Deciding that shopping and gold delivery could wait a few moments, the nun browsed the rows of shelves, simply to admire the tomes on display.

Paon showed up shortly after that, dividing out gold and inquiring about the locations of the others.

: "No, I'm afraid not. I was thinking about visiting a magic shop, and it's possible I'll spot some of them while I'm out there. I can hand out their shares of gold when I spot them."

The nun took the gold, bowing as she left the stable, but didn't go directly to the streets. Instead, she made a detour to her room and spent a good few minutes looking at her reflection in the valuable mirror mounted above her dresser. Amberly clutched the icon of the Old Gods that she had picked up somewhere, debated internally for a few moments...then proceeded to change outfits. She lay her veil and hooded robe aside, choosing instead the slightly airier robe and holy headpiece worn by fully ordained nuns. This was a position she had more than earned through her years of service and the trials she had undergone on Captain Ethan's mission. It was one she had thought about assuming for the past week, but the confrontation with her father had finally pushed Amberly to take the plunge. She simply couldn't stand hiding her face any longer. If Lord Cawallader objected? Well, that was just too bad for Lord Cawallader.

By the time Amberly had finished by brushing out her hair and pinning the icon of her faith to her new robe, she barely recognized herself. Her clothes, while hardly revealing, would have sent the Mother Matrons at the Temple of Di into conniptions and screeching for a day-long prayer session. Only the eyes, basically all that could be seen of her in her initiate's robe, looked comfortably familiar.

Amberly hesitated for a few minutes, teetering between accepting her radical decision or diving back into the safe concealment that had been her life for more than a decade. Finally, she squared her shoulders and headed for the door.

: "Right. Time to get going."

There sure were a lot of demons around! 42-1 paid them no heed as he spotted a wounded beast of burden.

Q-18, heal Shoes.

Team Galactic, maybe. The grunts themselves were pretty harmless, but they were far more cult-like in their fanaticism than most other teams and Cyrus' goal was genuinely unsettling.

: "Luckily you have a few born-and-raised Kizamites handy. We'll be able to get help to find this fountain easily. Right, Amber? Karin?"

1125
Our family? Amberly liked the sound of that, but a lifetime of caution tempered her response.

: "I appreciate the sentiment, truly, but for the time being I believe my association with the Cawalladers should remain hidden. Leaving aside our father's obvious desire to have nothing to do with me, I imagine the news might break your mother's heart, or cause a rift in your family. That would be bad enough under normal circumstances, but given how tense things are with the king's death..."
