Henry waves in acknowledgement. "Two cups, coming up! One for you and one for...ah, if it isn't young miss Stukberg! I warn you now, young lady, that I counted the coins in the till!" The barkeep added the last sentence in a mock-serious tone of voice, wagging a finger even as he smiled. He and Maraline's father had gone back quite a ways.

"And, ah, coming right up ma'am. Just as soon as I tend to these two." The much-smaller Henry put on a brave face but clearly was unused to having 7-foot orcs in his tavern.

Spent a good twenty minutes choosing squad members, training them up, and purchasing upgrades. Deciding that I'd save and call it a day, I backed out to the campaign menu

and the game crashed. I don't know when my last save was.

Well we started a little late, but the game is live!

Kagus, IcyTea, Giglamesh, and lawastooshort are all in and ready to go. As Rockeater did not finish their sheet, their character isn't in at the moment.

Tomrik's Hollow.

A bustling community in the Northern Reaches, ringed by stone walls to ward away the occasional rebel group or beastman raid, and surrounded by farmland to the east and the Dark Wood to the west.
Founded by and named for the great hero Gregorius Tomrik, it has grown from a single muddy street into the center of local commerce and culture. His descendant, Gunther Tomrik, rules the town as lord.
Nominally still part of the Empire, Tomrik's Hollow finds itself mostly standing on its own. Aside from the great coastal city of Gateway, there exists no other significant military force in the region.
This far from the Alabaster Throne, the chaos and upheaval caused by the orc uprising is almost nonexistent. People go about their business as usual, just with perhaps a bit more apprehension than normal.
This, as with so many things, is about to change.

The Dusty Duck was a perennial favorite among the locals and vagabonds of Tomrik's Hollow. Its drinks weren't the best, but nor were they the cheapest. The food was adequate, but neither particularly moldy nor particularly exquisite. The wenches, while pretty enough, were not for hire like in a couple of the grungier watering holes along the docks. But it was the oldest tavern/inn in town, and that lent it a certain prestige that none of the other establishments could match.

The tavern was lively on this fine Summer evening. A group of halflings from Good Fortune were singing (loudly and out of tune) around an extinguished fireplace. The serving girls were kept busy bringing tankards of ale and plates of food to a number of tables. A dwarf sat on one end of the bar, examining a strange tome. The bartender nodded welcome to a well-built woman in a red cloak while completely missing another, younger-seeming woman that managed to slip in unnoticed.

Everyone gave the large orc in the corner a wide berth. Although she was alone, and the majority of the orc rebels were raising havoc down south, no one wanted to set this one off.

Imrak, Raina, Maraline, and Hate are in!

Found the Broken Vessel and died a few times before hitting on a charm combo that seemed to do okay. Then I tried to take on the...thing in its remains. That was too tough for me, but luckily it can't seem to actually kill me, just kick me out of its weird dream world.

I also decided to take on the Arena. I expected one-on-one fights with tough enemies. I did not expect massive waves of tough enemies.

Sam goes to 8-H and bards Sharne.

After Sharne moves, Esther goes to 12-D and blasts the axeman.

This guy sounded dangerous. Keyleth decided to fly over the treeline and take cover in the thickest patch of woods she could reach.

Fly to 7-F, then dismount and equip javelins.

Just like, any survival crafting game with basebuilding that gives you a way to populate your base, with inhabitants that both do things and act like they live there.
Terraria has the various NPCs, but I'm guessing you want something more in-depth and/or randomized. That would be pretty cool.

Arial shrugs and shoulder her bow. She had wanted to chase the bandits down, make a clean sweep of them, but those were the breaks.

That's fair enough, I guess I missed the Concentrate part of the Object Form spell.

I'll think on it and maybe check online to see if it's been errata'd anywhere. At the moment though, I'm still leaning towards the cancellation effect. It occurred to me that if you could switch back and forth for the duration of the spell, it might also allow you to swap between many different forms. You wouldn't have to choose between combat or utility for the hour, you'd be able to go back and forth as needed. That's an incredible degree of flexibility for a single spell slot, something I'm not sure other spells can match.

Like I said though, I'll think on it. Open to suggestions as well.

A question about transformations, by the way: the sidebar on page 147 notes that I can use a triggered action to "switch between forms". Does this mean that while an Animal Shape spell is active, I can suppress it and then continue it later, for instance if I want to cast other spells (which transformations prevent because you need to be able to talk to cast), or simply that I can cancel an Animal Shape spell at will? Depending on the answer, my plan might change to include the lesser Animal Shape spell for flexibility.
Completely forgot to answer this, my bad.

I'm leaning towards the "cancel spell at will" definition. Being able to stretch a single casting over long periods of time, especially if you're casting other spells in the meantime, would be a bit of a bookkeeping headache as I'd have to track exactly how long is left in your Animal Shape spell duration (or any other transformation spell when it comes to that) and also "reserve" the spell slot so it's both available and unavailable at the same time.

There is an alternative I might be willing to accept: you'd be able to shift back and forth, but the spell duration still counts down even when you're not in your animal shape. The problem with this is that Improved Animal Shape specifically states that you "remain in that form for the duration", and the feeling I get is that the other transformation spells work the same way. The point of the "switch between forms" ability seems to be so you aren't stuck as, say, a wooden box for the full 8-hour duration of Object Form.

Jasmine snorted.

: "Lady, I work with metal for a living. Armor might be good for some situations, but sneaking atop buildings ain't one of them. Aside from jangling every time you move, if you trip and fall you'll wake up half the city."

...avocados were 6 for 1.50
Dude wtf

Where?!?
Seriously. I live in California and they're like 1 for 1.50. And we grow them here! (Maybe they're cheaper if you don't buy them from the supermarket, IDK.)
They can be. I sometimes drive trucks through farm areas, and roadside stands might sell them at like, a dozen for $6. I've never seen them quite that low, though.
