Shadow of the Demon Lord. It's a grimdark take on fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, where casualties are high, the monsters are vicious, and sanity is fleeting. Gameplay is relatively simple, with just four characteristics and a small collection of derived stats, and no skills whatsoever other than what can be assumed with a little common sense. It also has one of the more interesting character advancement systems I've seen in a tabletop game. I want to give it a shot.
I'm looking for
four to five players willing to start as level-0 scrubs. This game will be run in a play-by-post format, right here on Bay 12. This means that I will probably have to do all of the dice rolling, but unfortunately my schedule is a little loopy so I can't really commit to live sessions. Rolling the dice is a small price to pay.
The beginning of the game will take place in and around Tomrik's Hollow, a walled town of a few thousand people in the Northern Reach. Player characters may live in Tomrik's Hollow or the surrounding lands, or simply be passing through on their own business. I would advise that at least one character live in the town proper, but of course that is not required.
It is possible for some characters to know each other before the game begins.
1: All Ancestries from the core rule book are allowed. Ancestries from supplemental material might be allowed, subject to review.
2: You may roll or choose on any of your ancestry tables, whichever you wish. The exception is your background. That one must be rolled - you may re-roll once, and may choose whichever result you prefer.
3: You may roll or choose your profession(s).
4: Your starting wealth level defaults to Getting By. If you choose, you may roll for a different option. Be warned that you must take the result of the dice roll, even if it is the same (or worse).
5: I recommend rolling on Interesting Things, as there are so many options. If you spot one you really like, however, bring it up with me.
6: When the time comes to choose your Paths, all Paths in the core rulebook are acceptable. This will give you plenty of options. Again, however, Paths from supplemental material may be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

Since this game is pretty new on the forums (a casual search seems to show that no one has tried to run SotDL here), I'll give prospective players at least a week, possibly two, to get their sheets together. Obviously if there is a glut of characters by the end of the first week there won't be any reason to wait longer.
Send me a PM if you don't have access to the core rulebook, and if anyone needs help with character creation, please don't hesitate to ask! Good luck, have fun, and remember: there are far worse fates than death.
