Also. What exactly are these shards in story? I know they're stat boosters but... yeah.
And we don't know. I'm paranoid about them and won't take them, but the rest don't seem too worried.

Gordon's got a Heal staff, a Tiena, and some sorta crazy Oblivion staff. I think he's good for a while. The only thing I'd be interested in is a non-shard stat-booster :V
