So, look at it this way: You're obviously the most efficient, well-rounded driver they have, so they're giving you the hard stuff to get it done properly.
I wish :P
I've been in the biz for seven months and there are plenty of areas in which I'm lacking. This company has drivers with more than five MILLION safe miles and drivers who routinely get an monthly average MPG of 9+. Mine tends to be in the 7 range - still good for trucks, but not the best.

Well, whatever the reason behind the decision, all I can do is my best.

The temporary warehouse idea might have some merit, but not the extra drive time thing. We don't get paid by the hour, we get paid by the mile. Whether I break multiple laws by rushing the distance in a single day, or take my time and arrive at the exact scheduled arrival time, I get paid the exact same amount. Once I drop the trailer, I get paid for the miles I covered. Whoever picks it up to finish the job gets paid for the rest of the miles. Either way the company will pay X amount of dollars, just divied up between two drivers instead of one.

Grifen shrugged.
: "Nah, not really, but somethin' might catch my eye. I just wanted to talk for a bit and I figger we can kill two rabbits with one arrow, to put it cole-o-quill-y." Grifen seemed inordinately proud to have remembered the word Fezz had used once before. She offered her good arm to the mage. "C'mon up, she don't bite."

That would explain the "GET IT HERE NAO1!" Urgency, but not the "Ok, now unhitch the trailer so random other trucker can haul it to the destination, litterally at the doorstep of the destination"

It makes much more sense to have the shipment delivered, given they already paid somebody to haul it up long distance.
It's hardly the doorstep, there's still a good 400 miles or so between where I'm dropping and where its going. But there's a hell of a lot less traffic in those 400 miles than in the 200+ I'm covering, which you could cover in a single day if needed. And the worst part is the delivery is two whole days from now! I could drive a leisurely seven-eight hours a day and have time to spare!

DISPATCH
Y U TAKE AWAY 600+ MILE LOAD TO SALT LAKE CITY
Y U TELL ME TO DROP THE TRAILER IN LAS VEGAS FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO DELIVER
I DO THE HARD PART GETTING IT OUT OF LA AND THROUGH VEGAS, THEY GET THE EASY PART
RAAAAAAAGE

We're gonna need more mooks.

Indeed, glorious.  Fortunately, we have more names!
Yes indeed!
Only some of them are human!

Also, I find it funny that the one alien on the team COMPLETELY ORDINARY HUMAN was the only one to score a kill.
False. Superfly Johnson scored a kill as well!

Dear gawd, such a busy day and it ain't done yet. I am likely to be sleeping in a dirt lot instead of somewhere civilized ;_;

Back at the yard

: "And ya know what? I bet the four of us will make a pretty darn good team too. Ain't much can stop a coupla Masallan girls like us...long as we got backup, anyway." She extended a hand to shake with the older woman.

After that

Grifen rode over to where Fezz was standing.

: "So whatcha up to? Need to do some shopping? Bree and I would be happy to give ya a lift."

19269
"Well, that's great. Have we gone around in a circle?"

Check map.

The thrill of competition was enough to put a huge smile on Grifen's face, and she giggled at Tacey's words.

: "Thanks, Tacey. Yer really good, too! Heck, if the track had been just a bit longer you woulda passed me fer sure!"

14 rookies left. 6 returned alive. 2 out of an indeterminate number of aliens were killed in exchange, nothing recovered. That's basically a death in my book :p
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's almost exactly what happened in my first xcom mission ever, except that I decided to change my objective to "recover those artifacts near the ship" and dragged a sectoid corpse and a plasma pistol back to the ship.  Which didn't end up mattering at all because I got more before I finished my current research.
I attempted to do just that. The soldier with the artifacts in question got shot in the back while still far away from the Skyranger.

Probably not a good idea to let the NPCs handle it on their own. It wouldn't do for their "AI" to "bug out" and leave us with one or more casualties.

Anyway, the four spellcasters up their are all capable of healing (either through staff or call magic) and all have ranged attacks, so Ernest can't do anything against them in the long run. Whether we can do anything to him in the long run is another story, but I'm sure that eventually there just won't be enough of him left to get back up anymore.

Grifen has a ton of money that Sara/Eleanor gave her, so you could approach after the race if you'd like. I will tastefully avoid mentioning who the money came from :P

You really should have brought some flares along...
Noted for next time, assuming my absurdly limited base stores allow me to do so. But this was a slaughter even by night mission standards. I cut out a lot of screenshots, but those aliens were firing several times each of their turns, and then you'd move and get three or more shots of reaction fire, often from different directions.

ALSO ALSO, you didn't see the multiple rounds between when I decided to call it quits and the end of the mission, when soldiers would panic, calm down, and panic again, sometimes leaving the safety of the Skyranger while doing so.

also also also, at one point Theros (the guy with the rocket launcher) went berserk while in the Skyranger with several other soldiers nearby. If he hadn't panicked on the previous turn and dropped said launcher, it probably would have been a total wipe.

The straightaway after the second turn was the longest in the yard. Where some other horses might slow down slightly to conserve energy, Bree had it to spare. More importantly, Grifen had severely underestimated Creidhne's speed once the big horse got moving; if she wanted a chance at winning, she'd have to make Tacey and Creidhne work hard for every inch of lead.

: Well, if I had any reason to doubt they were from Masalla, it'd be gone now! Plus she's got experience on her side. Come on Bree, you can do it!
