General Discussion / Re: Things that made you absolutely terrified today

I wonder why flashing lights trigger seizures in some people. Perhaps way back in our evolutionary past there was some sort of predator that used bioluminescence to disorient prey animals, including our distant ancestors.

Euro Sirus Simulator 2 is on sale.
At 75% off, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than actually becoming a trucker :P

Any recommendations for Might and Magic: Heroes VI? Looks to be an odd combination of RPG and TBS, and the only other examples of that mix I can think of are Battle for Wesnoth and the Fire Emblem series.

wow
The best part. Best part. That bottom one. Someone paid someone to make that. That's, just. Just. What. No. I have to say, whoever that was, I probably wouldn't have voted for them anyway, but anyone who pays someone to make something like a doge meme. I will not vote for that person. I don't care who they are or what their position is. I don't care if voting them into office would make puppies crap rainbows for the rest of eternity. No vote, ever, under any circumstance.
Wow, that's almost as dumb as that time a senator described the internet as "a series of tubes".

There's no porn. That's a terrible representation of the Internet.

(missed this in the Pacific Rim shenanigans)

How good are these computers? Because I "live" near a Best Buy and their selection kinda sucks <_<;
I would also be willing to help you nail down the specs you want and then point you in the right direction, even without Best Buy. Also, the Samsung Ativ 8 is probably the best lappy we keep in store, but we can order $6k monstrosities.

Mostly I just want something that can at least take a stab at running modern games with decent graphic settings, unlike my current model which stutters while running Half-Life 2 on bare minimum settings. For example, I saw a fellow trucker playing Skyrim on his laptop, and it looked and ran pretty well. He said it was somewhere around $500, but it was a gift so he didn't know the exact price.

On the other hand, I also want something that can run simpler, single-threaded games (like the game this community is most famous for). So not some 16-core, 1-Ghz-each monstrosity, but something with fewer, more powerful processors. I have no idea if these two goals are compatible :-\

I might have the rest of the day off. I don't know for sure, and I'm a little worried about leaving my truck or calling in to check, but its been well over three hours since my last job completed and they haven't pinged me with anything else yet.

I sure hope I have the rest of the day off.

"Glad to see that you don't wish to die just yet, goblin. Now, as to my insurance..."

Weston began chanting in an ancient, primordial language, moving his hands above the goblin's head the entire time. Finally, he tapped the goblin gently with his new staff and switched back to Common.

"I have placed my mark on you, goblin. With but a single special word, I can stop your heart and kill you in an instant. However, a different word can dispel the mark and leave you free. If you are loyal and amend your ways, I will release you. If you betray us, you will die. Sounds simple enough, right?"

It's not a big truck, you see. You can't just dump something on it.
You're not just supposed to dump stuff on a big truck either. There's weight limits and balance and centers of gravity to worry about.

Take Goblin Totem Staff +1 and share of gold.

Weston glanced up from examining his new staff.

"Ah, let the poor fellow live. Most bandits aren't lucky enough to get a second chance and I think he'll leave us be. If, however, he betrays us to another group of goblins and comes back for revenge, we'll kill him. Simple as that. I can offer some...insurance against betrayals if you folks wish."

Aaargh, my day just now started and its already 1300! That's 1 in the afternoon if you don't understand military time!
What's "military time"? It's like when you have a 24-hour day?
I'm probably using the wrong term, but yes. Instead of using am and pm with 12 hours each, you just have 24 hours and that's that.

Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon  :-\

I'm kinda with Furtuka. It was an admirable effort by TFS, but I'm not sure how well it worked. Haven't seen any other abridgements of AoT so I can't comment on how good any of the rest are.

Anyway, I decided to finally check out Gurren Lagann after that hypestorm from a few years back (yes, I am Slowpoke slow).

Be prepared for the best thing ever. Of all time.
I think I'm about halfway through the series now.

It's good. I'm not sure I'd call it the best thing ever, but the action scenes are nicely awesome, the characters are interesting, and the fanservice is, of course, appreciated. I hear this "Kill la kill" thing is made by the same studio and is supposedly even crazier, so I guess I'll watch it in a few years.

What, flux sector wasn't nuts enough? :P

True, there weren't any battles there or anything...but it was just plain creepy!
