All the talk of mothers made Ursa grow quiet. Not for the first time, he thought back as far as his memories could go, trying to remember a face, a voice...anything, really. And once again, nothing. He almost missed Diana's final question/comment.

So, everyone else has decided Chris has the ability to detect poison? Because it seems like a lot of you believe that he can, and I just want it out there that it's not my idea that he can do that.

I mean I'm not drinking the water anyway but I just want that point to be clear.

All I said was that Chris would likely recognize that he had been poisoned sooner than someone else would. He would probably notice the symptoms earlier.

I think that's what Earnest king of implied. He gave Valor the poison as an option, not the option. If the poison fails, kill him on the spot, any means necessary.

Again though, Chris has better stats and a potential instant-kill ability. I don't see Valor winning a straight up fight unless he gets lucky.

Ah, but what if Valor gets the poison into his system, and then, when he tries to call for help, either muffle him somehow, or, alternatively, just hold off Ami/Raquel/Seyena/Edwin long enough for it to be too late?

As far as plans go, it's...not great.

What I don't get about this: Chris is a trained spy and will likely notice the effects of the poison before they become fatal (assuming the poison gets consumed at all). His fiancee is our best healer, and Ernest said that plenty of healing magic will neutralize the poison. And even assuming she can only hold it at bay, we have money for a Restore staff and will be getting it after the wedding, which will neutralize the poison entirely.

I'm far from certain Valor can easily kill Chris in a straight-up fight, so I doubt that's what BMM's planning. I just don't see how this can work out in any way other than Valor betraying himself to no avail; either by confessing what Ernest threatened him with or by revealing himself as a (unwilling) traitor.

Ursa blinked at Diana's outburst, not sure what set her off.

He listened to Diana's musings. Most of her words went right over her head, but if he understood the gist of what she was saying...
