Keyleth nodded, a bit sadly. She had been afraid of this.

: "It's not impossible to escape, you know. I'm sure he's done his best to break you, to make you think otherwise, but it's true. If the two of us work together, we might be able to convince him to let you go without a fuss...but if you think you'd be too scared to face him, I can probably do it on my own."

: "That's not really what I meant," Keyleth said, glancing at the dishes. Poor girl must be thoroughly conditioned if this was the first thing she thought of. "I was asking if you needed help "dealing" with Michael. I know you have those knives now, but..."

Sam shook her head. This meeting had gone about as well as she could have hoped.

Keyleth left the sundry shop, nothing in particular catching her eye (and no one was there anyway). On her way back to the village square, intending to check Skar's scales for damage, she caught sight of Lucette and Michael. The maid appeared to be serving Michael lunch, and looked more dour than usual while doing so.

Wyvern care forgotten for the moment, Keyleth watched the two with a growing feeling of distaste. Memories of her own time spent as a servant flooded her mind, and suddenly her fingers were itching for a weapon. Right then and there, Keyleth decided that she wasn't going to leave Lucette in her situation. Even if it screwed up Jack's mission, she would find a way to free the maid...and make Michael pay in blood if the situation demanded it.

Having had a look up of what it'd cost to get a full set of leatherworking tools, optional things included, it'd be about £160

Not cheap, but when compared to a blacksmithing intro course (£300) definitely cheap. It also has the advantage of being something I could do in, say, the garage.

But, were I to go ahead with this, I'd rather get back home and see what we have that I could use. I'd be unsurprised to find my dad had some tools that'd make entirely acceptable replacements, given how he accumulated tools on the off-chance he'd use them.

If you're looking for that general kind of hobby, chainmail is very cheap to get started with. The only actual tools you need for butted mail are needlenose pliers.
And the cost of the metal is...?

Her business at the weaponsmith's done for the moment, Keyleth hunts for some sort of trinket shop.

The Kirby series is no stranger to brutality. As cutesy as the main stuff is, final bosses and the like tend to be cosmic horrors with unfathomable motives.

Games full of fluffy charm and whimsical music culminate in bloodsoaked battles against eldritch abominations lurking in the hellish void.

Those two might be mathematically the same. 10-for-1 and 15-for-2 are not mathematically the same, so it isn't a real comparison.

Anyway, what's the difference between your scenario and an enemy with Fortune? You can't crit them either way, so why does one case get free damage while the other doesn't?

EDIT: I'm gonna suggest we go with 8 crit to 1 MT. It'll make calculations slightly more fiddly, but it's in that golden middle ground between all the suggested trade-offs (well, as close as you can get without involving fractions).

Enemy DG shouldn't be taken into account in the first place. Anyway, even if 15 for 2 is less flexible, you still get more bang for your buck in terms of hard numbers. More damage, and more crit to spare.

The argument was that you wouldn't get much use out of the skill as proposed (15 crit for 2 damage) at low levels. I'm pointing out that you could, quite easily, be using that skill as often as you like right out of the first-class gate.

If someone isn't using crit-boosting PSs or support bonuses because they don't want those things...well, they're never going to be getting a lot of use out of any version of the class skill without using high-crit weapons like the Killing Edge.

Example: In order to use the Merc's new class skill as BMM42 wants it, you absolutely need to cap SKL to get even a single point of extra damage off it. If you don't have critting weapons, supports, or crit-boosting PSs, the skill is basically useless. Face it, if you have a class skill based around crit you need to invest in it somewhat.
