Charlotte perked up, hoping to inspire a little confidence in Gregor.

: "Besiiiiides, I'm practically invulnerable shooting from half a castle away. If anything, you'll die a tragic death before me."

Wait.

: "That sounded different in my head. I'll just be quiet now."

Somehow, this did actually put a smile on his face. A small one, and it didn't last long, but there it was.

: "That's true. I've seen ballistae with less range than you, Char."

: "You don't need to be quiet if you don't want to. Could you just..stay here, for a moment? I'll be okay in a little while; just have to get my thoughts sorted out."

:"Neither of you are going to die! I swore to protect my friends, so that means I'm very well going to protect the two of you!"

: "You can't protect everyone all the time, Alexander. But I appreciate the sentiment."

That's a good question. Thankfully, I think Haspen made Prixima Obviously Evil^(c) enough to keep us from staying at her castle.

I *guess* this counts of ownage...

Devotees of the alynx(fantasy cat) god came to my clan and offered to perform a ritual that would make the clan alynxes more efficient at hunting vermin. I offered them some of our kittens as payment for the ritual. The leader of the cult took one look at them and, with tears in his eyes, essentially declared that my kittens were too adorable to take away from us and decided to perform the ritual for free.

Shortly afterward, I utterly decimated a raid from a nearby clan - one fyrd wound on my side, multiple weaponthane deaths on theirs. I doubt the two events are related, but this is more of a traditional ownage.

Hmm. In stories like these, typically the bad guys either need ALL of the MacGuffins (that way, the heroes can foil the bad guy's plans by holding on to just a single MacGuffin, at least until they come up with a more concrete plan) or only a SINGLE MacGuffin (each one has the power you need, or each one has different abilities and you need a certain one).

So I'm gonna guess that Prixima can't proceed with her plans until she has every Dragonstone. Which means that she'll be gunning for the Tiger's Eye soon, if she isn't coming after it already.

That's not advised; I'm 15 and I still don't think I weigh more than 100 pounds. Walking skeletons would be jealous, and we know how they're always chaotic evil.

Charlotte knelt down at the wall beside Gregor as this was all happening.

: "You aren't looking very good, Gregor. Did Ami not heal you?"

Gregor shook his head. He had to force himself to speak, as his throat felt like it was trying to close completely.

: "No, its not that. See the dead man in the Kesselring uniform? He told me that..Prixima had my family ki--"
"That my family is de--"

He couldn't say the actual words; he choked each time, knowing that saying them out loud might just ruin what little composure he had left.

Better eat in the common area for now. I'm sure the Captain doesn't want crumbs all over his shiny bridge, sickbay needs to be sterile, and zero-G would be more likely to make you sick if you haven't done it before.
