Max in crops, herds and health for sure. Not dying of hunger is pretty great. War and mysteries sound like good places to put other points, but excess magic is useful even if it just sort of sits there.
Agreed. We don't want to have to make bad trades for food again, or call in more favors on such mundane stuff.

It's more that Gaia worlds are magical, actually, since the in-game descriptions for them sound remarkably similar to Continental worlds (other than the mention of oceans). Yet, one of those worlds is perfectly habitable to every organic species in the entire galaxy...and one isn't.

Earth starts the game as a Continental, not a Gaia. It should be the same when the game ends.

That makes no sense at all. Before the Prethoryn Scourge we were ready to adapt, to improve, to create a utopia for all sentient beings. Why should we let them change our values? The past cannot be altered, so rather than look inward and back with a lifeless memorial or nostalgic fantasy, we must look outward and forward by creating a true utopia. Earth shall be the first of a galaxy of ideal planets!

It is only thus, by staying true to our dreams and ideals no matter the circumstances, that we may claim spiritually never to have left earth.
This...makes the opposite of sense to me. The goal is to return to Earth. Not some pretty facsimile, not some Disneyland fairy-tale version of the homeworld, but EARTH.

I know we can never return the world to exactly the way it once was; impact craters, if nothing else, will have forever altered the landscape, and countless species are undoubtedly extinct. But if we want to claim, in spirit if nothing else, that we had never left Earth, then let's return it to the way it once was. The flowing rivers AND the burning deserts. The lush jungles AND the frozen wastelands. From the open plains to the darkest caves, from the deepest oceans to the highest mountains, we must restore Earth as a Continental world in all its glory.

Ideally, I'd like to terraform Olympia back into an ice world as well. I can't even begin to imagine how many species, adapted to the frigid cold, are now either extinct or live on only in climate-controlled zoos. If we want perfectly ideal, universal climates, that's what habitats are for.

Because I lack the time to read through 280 pages of thread, could I get a link to the current "best" version of Elona? I played a little of this game some years back, and I'd like to try it again, but it was on an old computer.

While getting set up for a screenshot, I figured it out.

Turns out, I'm an idiot! Good to know. My pump and boilers were not quiiiiite aligned with each other, and thus water wasn't flowing from the pipe which explains why the boilers weren't doing anything.

Okay...either steam engines are bugged, or power generation was changed at some point...or I'm just an idiot.

I have an offshore pump taking water out of a pond. It's connected to a boiler loaded with coal. I connected that boiler to a second boiler, also with coal, just in case one wasn't enough. I then attached a steam engine to the second boiler, on the outgoing steam connector side of the boiler. I string some power poles to my first electric mining drill...and nothing happens. The boilers don't boil. The steam engine produces exactly zero power. The mining drill has a "not enough electricity" symbol, not a "disconnected" symbol, so everything should be hooked up properly. A quick run along my power line shows no breaks.

What am I missing here? I've never been great at Factorio, but I was at least able to cobble together a steam engine without too much undue difficulty.

I like the war party idea, but I'm also worried that it would count as "raiding" and so displease that one god.

Let's not give up on Thadart. If he was a skilled warrior, perhaps he managed to get away from the vile boar-riders.

I'm getting a bonus this year for safety and attendance! Seven Benjamin Franklins, or probably about five-and-three-quarter Bens after taxes.

It's not huge, it's less than an average paycheck, but it's still nice.

Agreed. Since they're relatively close by, we may want to consider opening trade with them as well.

Also, damn. I seriously thought Lhankor Mhy was a god of crafting. Sadly, none of his/her/its blessings seem to affect crafting at all.

The problem is, if we take too much land it's harder to patrol and enemy raiding teams can sneak in more easily. We must emulate the mighty fortress, with just a single entrance and exit, as much as KoDP mechanics allow.
