What the hell kind of independent province has five goddamn wizards defending it, along with a host of other nasty units? That's the second army I've lost trying to take the place, and it's right next to my capitol. Jerks keep summoning elementals and pelting my units with long-distance magic, and not even my sacred pegasi riders can deal with them. Either my priestess decided not to bless them, or the blessing doesn't do anything.

Dominions 4. Boy I suck at this.

---------------------------

New game. I set up my first moves and recruitment, hit the End Turn button...
...and a random explosion rips the arm off my Pretender. The game has literally just started and my most important unit is crippled. Fucking hell.

Still Dominions 4

The way I'd do it:

Ships disengage individually, warping out when damage exceeds a certain threshold or low morale overcomes the ability of the leading admiral(s) to keep them in the fight.
Those ships are "lost in the warp" but are kept track of.
Only after combat ends one way or the other can the escaped ships re-emerge at the nearest safe port, and they are all bunched together in a single new fleet. This way, there's no weird invincibility and there is also less micro-management than having to suddenly organize a dozen new single-ship fleets together.

Another year failed. Did my best so far though! Nearly 10k words before repeated long days and holiday stress put an end to major writing.

If I'd had any qualms about doing my business in public commodes, long-distance driving would have put an end to those right quick. Luckily I've never had too many hangups about that sort of thing, but I can and will avoid anything too poorly maintained (and porta-potties are a last resort).

My first run was a technical success: humanity survived, but more than 300 died during the journey or while building the colony, and the damage to the cultural databases led to the formation of an oppressive, iron-fisted police state.

My second run went much better: all colonists survived, on a nice world with plenty of water and edible vegetation, where the major flaw was that people have to wear breathing masks when they leave their underground cities. On the bright side, all databases survived intact as did the construction equipment, and so humanity lives on in a post-scarcity utopia.

I remember a character in the game Iji, who would teleport a gun into his hand, fire it, teleport it out, teleport a fresh one in, fire it, and repeat, and doing it so quickly that it looks like he's firing just one gun way more rapidly than it normally should.

Heat Signature finally allows you to do that yourself.
