General Discussion / Re: The Crossover Thread

Honestly, that makes Predators sound either pretty goddamn stupid, horribly overconfident, or a bad case of fan wank in my book. You don't take a pellet gun to destroy a tank, and you don't take "moose-hunting equipment" to destroy nests of freaking Xenomorphs. Considering the terrible success rate on those missions we've seen of that and what just one Xeno/Pred hybrid can do to wreck stuff, I wouldn't be venturing into a Xenomorph nest without anything less than the very best equipment possible. Hell, they even die going up against regular humans. Either we've just been seeing the very worst Predators, or they're not nearly as good as they like to pretend.

My impression of human spaceship technology in the Alien/Predator universe (from what little I've seen, I'm far from an expert) indicates that it's pretty unimpressive even as far as sci-fi in general goes. Wake me when a Predator ship can take on, say, the Enterprisefrom Star Trek in a single shot and come out unscathed, and then we can discuss how effective they'd be against 40k ships.

Now, I see what you're saying about the Space Marine thing, but I'm not sure it would happen. Have the Predators shown any sign of being skilled genetic manipulators? Do they think that the Marines would just let them get away with the bodies/geneseeds of fellow Marines? And even if the Predators do manage to figure it out, remember the horrendous failure rate that humans have with the process, and they've had 10,000 years of practice. Predators strike me as a fairly small population, and they'd probably never get more than say, 100 Predator Marines (assuming they even get it to work, considering how different the species are).

To continue the discussion and continue my latest 40k binge, what would happen if all the Predators - all of them, their planets, ships, everything - were suddenly dropped into Warhammer 40k? I'm fairly sure they'd end up carving out an empire for themselves among the stars, but would they ally with the Imperium? Probably not, but still.
One last (amazing) idea: what if the Predators managed to reverse-engineer Space Marine creation?
I have no idea how good their ships etc are, but I guess it would all depend on how well they stand up to three things:
  • Space fleet battles
  • Full-on ground warfare
  • The wargear used by the various factions

Because we typically only ever see small groups of Predators hunting small groups of ill-prepared "prey" on foot. Could they do anything against, say, an Earthshaker barrage? What about Titans? How many of their ships would it take to take on an Imperial battlecruiser? Heck, even a destroyer is well over a kilometer long and armed to the teeth. You get the picture.

As for "reverse-engineering Space Marine creation"; why would they? Running around in adamantium power armor doesn't sound like the kind of thing Predators would be in to.

I think this will work. Might cause problems once we get our first spaceship though, unless we're willing to be picky about drives and power.

Spoiler: Wickerdock the Weird (click to show/hide)

What about Santana?

She occasionally does good stuff, but mostly she's just rude and stirs up drama the sake of making people angry. Rachel and Kurt still should have ditched her after these Brody shenanigans.
WHAT.

WHAT.

YOU. HERETIC.

Going back to the original thread purpose...

All Metroid games are in separate alternate universes. The reason Samus seemingly loses most of her abilities in between each game is because she never had them to begin with; each game chronicles her first "major" mission. References to other games in the time line do not break this theory, as her "previous" missions were far more low-key than they occurred in the other universes, or were undertaken by a larger force of army units with Samus as an adviser.

My WTF of the day is realizing bay12 was given an opportunity to discuss political and social issues regarding a bunch of half-naked women harassing Putin, but chose to continue their discussion of cheese graters and can openers instead.
I love this website :D

You guys have fun on Durian. I just gained access to CyberSpider units thanks to some rep-grinding, and I intend to make good use of them.

The problem isn't with the shredded cheese keeping, but with it all merging into a singular blob or otherwise melting into itself.
If it's doing that in your fridge, I think you need a new fridge :|
I badly need a new fridge, but I don't think that's the only issue. Maybe it's the pressure of it being clumped together in a relatively small container?
I never noticed it happening before, but I guess it's possible.

Or, you know, captialism could get in on the act and sell ready grated cheese. Oh, wait, it has been doing that for years and you dont need the middle bit done manually at home any more? Oh joy!

That, my friend, is blasphemy. Freshly grated cheese is obviously superior to cheese grated in a factory and left to dry for amounts of time unknown until you actually purchased it. Please head to the torture chamber ultrafuntime room for compulsory repenting.
Well, of course it's superior. Sometimes however, convenience wins out.

This is why we buy bread in a bag, not grind our own corn and all that jazz.
Exactly.
