Other Games / Re: Action Roguelike(like)s

I think Receiver belongs here. Made by Wolfire Games (the same team that made Lugaru and is developing Overgrowth), it's a sort of FPS roguelike where you wander through infinite, randomly generated buildings in search of audio logs. You start with either a semiautomatic handgun, a revolver, or a machine pistol, and must survive against really nasty robotic enemies that can easily OHK you. Ammo can be scarce, so you have to aim carefully at certain parts on the robots to disable them in some way.

The gun mechanics are really in-depth; no simple pressing R to reload here! The handgun, for instance, requires you to pull out the clip, add bullets one by one, re-insert the clip, pull the slide, and possibly cock the hammer or flip the safety as well. Each action has it's own button associated with it, and all of this is done in real time. It's awkward at first, but starts to feel really intuitive with practice.

Gregor would also be able to attack at least once, so that's a net profit.
Nope. Characters can't do anything after being revived, so Gregor could only counterattack (assuming he even survives the initial attack).

Gregor'd just get hit and fall down again :P
Still, that would reset the death timer, so go for it.

PTW. If I had a dollar for every awesome-looking indie game I'd love to support but couldn't...well, I'd be able to support quite a few of them.

Thankfully, this one is now free. Maybe someday I'll be able to donate :)

How can you hate driving?! :o
Ton+ pile of metal being propelled by explosions that you are only nominally in control of and one unseen mechanical failure from committing manslaughter with. Vehicles are one of the deadliest things we encounter with any regularity and driving them makes me goddamn nervous as hell. It's like juggling loaded revolvers without a safety on 'em or something. In the middle of a preschool. And occasionally one of the revolvers just lights on fucking fire and explodes.

I'm not the sort of monster that could enjoy doing something like that.
Oh please. Calling it a "ton+ pile of metal propelled by explosions" just makes it sound cooler than it really is; a very well-engineered form of metal, plastic, glass, and modern composites that turns chemical energy into kinetic energy. You completely ignore the numerous safety features built into each vehicle to insure that any accidents do as little damage to people as possible. Mechanical failures only account for around 13% of accidents, and most of those are due to poor or no maintenance rather than the vehicles being rolling death traps. The rest of your post is wild over-exaggeration.

Oh, and thanks for implying that I am a "monster". I drive probably an hour almost every day out of necessity, and I love every minute.

I'm kinda confused, because when I went skiing for the first time you had to use chairlifts to access any slopes at all, even the beginner ones.

28439
Why so? It's a bit of rage for me, because I can't bring myself to enjoy something that other people obviously do. It makes me feel as if I'm slow or uncultured or something along those lines.

I for one believe that people are unnecessarily min-maxing munchkins when they trash talk heavy lasers and/or mod them to be better.

Sub-optimal Players' Front unite!

*Fist pumps!*
* Sirus offers high-fives
*Remuthra fires his mad skills gun^ into the mass of suboptimal players*

^(please ignore distinct lack of mad skills)

You've obviously never fought suboptimal players before. What we lose in minor bonuses and gimmicks, we make up for in attachment to our characters, who are actually people to us, not a compilation of stats and munchkining. :P
Like for example, take Fire Emblem. A power-gamer would likely look up the various support charts and effects to get the most uber-l33t team he can possibly get, and damn what happens to the characters involved.

A guy like me does supports based on personal preference for the various relationships that can form.
