One last Thing issue for you to contemplate: if it gets hold of just one Space Marine, it could potentially have an army of those; it would know how to recreate gene seeds and such.
Gene seeds don't just sprout into new Marines, you know :|

They have to be carefully cultivated into the various artificial organs before implantation into a strong, suitable candidate. Even then, most candidates die.

A Thing on a Chapter Recruiting World (Read: Hellhole Deathworld of Doom) then, would be incredibly bad news. Entire planet of rapidly mutating, super badass/intelligent superhumans.
That would indeed be bad. The whole recruiting Chapter and planet might get wiped out by the Inquisition in a situation like that, either because they were infested or simply because they might be.

Where does that dividing line between old and new fall, out of curiosity?

"Greenest" Astartes is a relative term. Don't forget that they've already spent a few decades running around as scouts, getting used to their implants and weapons, forming partnerships, and basically staring death in the face the entire time.

On that note, a Spartan could probably go one-on-one with a Scout Marine with ease; not nearly as much armor or experience, and their implants haven't had as much time to work.

I have just purchased, for the third time in my life due to discs shattering, Baldur's Gate. I nerdgasmed when I saw Steam had it. So happy.
It's by Bioware, right? Does that mean the standard Bioware RPG tropes apply?
Even thought I've never gotten around to playing Baldur's Gate, I might have to slap you just for associating Bioware with it.
Wait, I coulda sworn Bioware did a D&D-based game O_o;

Thing is, I'm not even sure if Mjolnir suits are better/higher-tech than SPEHSS Power Armor. Apart from the shields, that is, but those are weak enough that a few shots from a Covenant plasma pistol can pop them. Granted, if the techpriests got their metal tentacles on fast-charging personal energy shields...

But yeah, even in their own pond Spartans are only "demons" in the fluff. When it comes down to actual combat they're better than pretty much anything else in a 1v1 situation, but even something like a squad of high-ranking Elites or a Hunter pair can take them down. They're essentially proto-Astartes with lower tech everything, except the shields. And their weapons? You think something like the dinky little rounds from a MA5B would even give a Space Marine pause? Or that Mjolnir would stand up to bolter fire? A ratio of 3 Spartan-IIs or ~8 Spartan-IIIs per Astartes might be fair. Less if they had access to plasma swords, gravity hammers, and other sorts of Covenant goodies.
That's about the way I see it. And we're just talking basic Marines with boltguns here. If they brought out the elites or some better weaponry, the Spartans would just lose faster.

I just heard one of the dumbest things I ever heard... so much so I can't believe someone actually said it... ON THE NEWS!

Dear goodness the gun debates in the US are lined with idiocy. "Ohh if the Jews or Africans who were brought to America had guns then the Holocaust and slavery would have never happened"

That's particularly ironic, since the Second Amendment was written for the benefit of the southern states' militias a.k.a. the slave patrols.
...You sure? The Constitution was written before slavery even became an issue in general politics. As in nearly a hundred years before. I thought the second amendment was written primarily to justify what the Independence movement was trying to accomplish: i.e, forming a militia to prevent hostile takeovers by the ruling government.

Well i've thought about it for a while. I think that Spartans would be better fighters but the Space Marines would be better soldiers. The Spartans have better biological upgrades for quick battles but would falter when they need to fight for days on end.

Though their weapons would be subpar.
Very subpar. Unless they brought along some Covenant tech (which the Imperium would go nuts trying to get their hands on), those simple projectile weapons might not even scratch Astartes armor.

If some enginseer decided that the Spartan's armor counted as Lost Tech...there would be no limits to the lengths that the Adeptus would go to acquire it by any means necessary. Best case scenario, they coerce the Spartan into cooperating with them. Worst case, the Mechanicus would have to settle for examining the charred remains. Remember, we're dealing with a cult that will willingly unearth Necron tombs for tech if they think they can get away with it.

I don't know how long they'd last. Especially up against Space Marines :|

Orks and Tyranids, they could put up a good fight against. IG would win eventually, thanks to their energy weapons. Tau, Necrons, and Eldar would likely cut them to pieces.

I meant to say "any crossover involving 40k", but your idea might be better. I dunno.

It'll be released by Tuesday. Though which Tuesday is unknown.

Wait patiently. It's not even been a year, yet.

Which Tuesday?  :P
"To you, it was a day of legend. A day when a worthy successor to Terraria was released, and improved on it in every way. A day when gamers everywhere cheered and tears of joy flowed freely.

But for me...it was Tuesday."

A cookie for the first person to guess the reference

Yeah, because something or other is gonna take it out eventually.

Should we have a blanket "No WH40k" rule here? Or should we limit any crossovers to individual characters or other small scale things?

I installed Saints Row III today, thinking it might be some light GTA-style fun.

Instead I robbed a bank, jumped out of the same airplane twice, have engaged in a free-fall gun battle, and have shot down an improbable number of helicopters. And I'm just at the first safehouse.

Holy shit.
