General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Unless the boy were cis or trans or something, I really don't see how someone of the male persuasion could be classified as a "lesbian".
FTFY.

If my wiki-fu is right, a cis male is the stereotypical (heterosexual) male.
I admit that gender definitions and the various ways people can see themselves are not my strong point  :-\

Went to a family gathering today, became beanbag-tossing CHAMPION. In a family where everyone but me plays football or basketball, it's nice to have my own niche :P
If you want the secret to throwing a perfect football every time, lemme know. I happen to know that secret. ^_^
Could you also teach me the secret of tackling people who weigh two of you? Because that and catching are my biggest problems :P

Secret 1: When you're about to release the ball, squeeze, then release the ball. This will ensure a proper spiral almost every time.
Secret 2: To easily catch a football, make a diamond with your index fingers and thumbs, then wrap your hands around it and pull it into your gut. Alternatively, cradle the ball with your forearms, then put one of your arms under it, and the other over it to prevent it from popping loose.
Secret 3: The easiest way to tackle someone bigger than you is by plowing ahead full steam, watching their belt buckle (or corresponding area) and when your shoulder meets their midsection, chop at the backs of their knees with your hands. Ensure that your head is next to their hip, and that you are primarily hitting with your dominant arm. This will almost guarantee a de-cleater hit.
Sooo, you're playing a very aggressive goalkeeper? :P
Nah. Sirus asked for advice on catching, not falling on the ground after no one's hit him. :P
Keep in mind, when I said I was terrible at catching, I meant my hand-eye coordination and reflexes generally aren't sufficient for such sports :P

I'm not a football sort of guy anyway.

Ah, that explains it.

Still though, even with some disadvantages in the long run, sounds like such an unusual character would be fun to play.

I thought the very definition of a lesbian was a woman who was attracted to other women. Unless the boy were cis or trans or something, I really don't see how someone of the male persuasion could be classified as a "lesbian".

I'm fine being completely antisocial and not having a Facebook.
I have one, but I never even uploaded a picture and haven't been on for over a year :P

Yeah, I realized that shortly after I clicked the Post button :P

Other Games / Re: Aurora - The Dwarf Fortress of 4X Games
« on: August 25, 2012, 11:02:26 pm »
Started a new game because I was bored of massive, utterly useless systems in my previous games. So far, so good! I've been dropping ruins on potentially habitable planets (under the justification that they were perfectly habitable at one point), partly for the research boosts and partly to get some experience with ground combat; some robots awoke on Mars, and the combined efforts of the engineering and garrison brigades held out for a year until I could get some mobile infantry over there to finish the job (renamed Red Dogs).
Five systems link to Sol, three of which contain potential colony worlds, one of which might have an NPR (no sign of them yet though). A fourth contains nothing worth exploiting. The fifth system contains...a stable wormhole  :o

Problem is, this is a conventional start, and while I have nearly a dozen scientists of various degrees of skill, none of them are Missile/Kinetic weapon specialists. Thus, I have created the Foxtrot class of ships, each armed with two 20-cm plasma carronades. The plan is for them to park in groups of five or so at various distances from the jump point leading to the quarantined system, and if anything unpleasant comes through they will open fire. Hopefully, the sheer power will overwhelm enemy ships before they can get shields or targeting sensors up, and if some die it's no big deal, as the Foxtrots are cheap (as far as combat ships go) and crewed with conscripts (as part of the narrative - humanity has shifted into a corporate dictatorship called the Industrial Alliance, and human life is cheap and easily replaced).

Of course, this is a stop-gap solution, designed to get some sort of decent defensive punch up ASAP. As time goes on, and assuming the Invaders don't pour through and slaughter humanity in the meantime, I will be adding dedicated sensor vessels, meson-armed ships to punch through any shields that manage to get up, and if I ever get the proper specialists some missiles as well. Anyone have some advice for dealing with these guys, keeping in mind that they are a single jump away?

HOT STUFF!

Firaxis and 2K will be streaming an hour of gameplay footage on Monday. They hinted it it was all new footage, so, I'm quite interested to see it.

More info here.
Agh! I'll be at school, not an area conducive to streaming :(

Well, the moon -is- a dead-end...
Hardly. With proper investment, the Moon becomes an incredibly useful launching point for further exploration, what with the reduced gravity and no air resistance. It's a dead-end now, but it can be much more.
