Scouting was an important part of Supreme Commander (and I assume Total Annihilation). Having fog of war makes sense.

That'd be an idea. Send space probes out with the entire sum of our knowledge on them in these DNA hard drives. Something like 80% of it is pornographic. Hopefully whatever alien empire picks one up isn't a race of prudes

True, but the fact that the devs have finally resumed work is a good sign. Maybe we'll hit a stable 2.0 within a decade, rather than another 2 million years.

« on: August 18, 2012, 01:55:34 am »He's saying that some sort of stat-tracker noticed that a vehicle which is normally the slowest (say, a tractor or something) was actually going much faster than any other land vehicle. The reason for that is players were connecting the slow vehicle to airplanes.....What?Funny story about that actually.Tethered a car to a helicopter and successfully threw it through a gas station.I really want this game.Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They have a part of the game that tracks some gameplay information, and found that one of the fasting travelling land vehicles was also the slowest. And that that car was also one very often tethered to aircraft.
...I think.

General Discussion / Re: Game Design debate: Unlimited Inventory vs. Limited Inventory
« on: August 18, 2012, 12:50:07 am »
If you're going to be mining stuff and returning to town to improve it, I would go with a limited inventory. You could be able to upgrade inventory space as you go along.

You craft books that teleport you to other random worlds, known as "Ages". You can basically make infinite worlds, so long as you remember to make other books that will return you home. I like the look of it, it doesn't add a hundred new blocks and some of the worlds are pretty bizarre.

My mind is blown. There's nothing else I can say.

Hey, I said I didn't agree with the stereotype.
It does, however, fit the canon Hyrulian soldiers. Which is why I assume this mod takes place in an alternate, more GrimDark version of Hyrule.

No, not Napoleon. Napoleon could at least give Ganondorf pause.
French people are often (and incorrectly) stereotyped as being cowards who will surrender at the drop of a hat. Something to do with how quickly Paris fell in WWII, if I remember correctly.

« on: August 17, 2012, 10:49:56 pm »Haven't you played Twilight Princess? Hyrulian soldiers in the games are utterly useless, either dying like flies or surrendering like a stereotypical French man. Usually the latter. This strikes me as a little silly. I am in no way an expert in Zelda lore but I don't believe there was any really massive wars between factions. It seems like they just took well-known characters from the game and modeled them into Total War to mindlessly fight against each other.Well there had to be wars, Ganondorf kept invading the castle to grab Zelda, not like she walked right into his arms.
That's not to say that it's bad in anyway, those models look good and the gameplay might be solid. Just still seems silly.

« on: August 17, 2012, 10:42:15 pm »Okay, did that. AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher contains a single executable file (technic-launcher) and nothing else.Check your launcher logs, located inSearch for the above finds nothing
AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher\logs
Pick the "Run..." command in your start menu. Type in Appdata and click Ok.
ETA: Okay, never mind! Apparently I needed to run the executable in the Appdata folder. Not sure why it was set up that way, but *shrug*
