I gotta say "no" to slavery as well. I've never used it in any of my Civ games, and I'll be damned if we start now.

Refresh my memory: How many troop transport bays are needed to carry engineer brigades? I found a lost colony in a nearby system, and I want to partake in the delicious alien knowledge. Or wake the killer alien robots. Whatever.

Baystation12 lagging. Admin solves the problem by deleting all the clothing in the station. Cue laughter.

Sounds logical to me, I play Dwarf Fortress.

I wonder if anyone else on the forum based around Dwarf Fortress plays Dwarf Fortress :P
Naaaaaah.

EDIT: 5001st post! Yay!
(thanks to Haspen for reminding me :P )

Building jump gates takes a while, but after that any ship, no matter what class or size, can use it. Jump drives have a limit in terms of the size and number of ships they can support, and come in military and commercial flavors. Military jump drives cannot transport commercial ships, and vice-verse.

Remember Yaga Minor? Apparently, the outer planets are so far out there that I get overflow errors trying to go to them, on the order of 45 trillion km. The primary star has a luminosity of 900,000. Automated survey doesn't work as there are no asteroids or anything within 10 billion km of the JP. In short, Yaga Minor is pretty useless to me until I get some better engine techs, which won't happen until I get a decent scientist, or unless there are plenty of jump points there to use as a nexus.

Hey, I'm with you guys 100%. Life on Mars? HELL YEAH! But the odds are kinda long, and even if it was (or IS) there, that's a lot of ground to cover with a car-sized robot. Just trying to be realistic.

Fossils of complex life would be insanely awesome, but I'm not holding my breath to be honest. From what I remember, Mars didn't last long enough for life as we know it to begin forming. It took - what? - 2 billion years for the simplest multicellular forms to grow here? 3 billion? Assuming I'm remembering my astronomy lessons correctly, Mars didn't have liquid water for that long.

Okay, the system of Yaga Minor is pretty damn crazy. It's a trinary system, each star with planets, non easily colonizable. That's not the crazy part.

You have Yaga Minor A in the center, surrounded by survey points. Aways from there, you have Yaga Minor C (yes, C), with it's planets. A little further out, Yaga Minor B with it's collection.

Over double the distance away? Yaga Minor A's planets. Yes. Two entire "star systems" are closer to the primary than the primary's own planets. Crazy.

Ah. Well, thanks for the workaround. I usually play in SM mode anyway, in case something bugs out.

When I started this game, I checked the option for generating jump gates on all JPs. But now I finally found my first jump point and attempted to send a ship through...and I'm being told I need a jump drive. How do I fix this? I still don't have a PP scientist, so I really don't want to wait another five-six years to develop a simple jump drive when I'm not supposed to need them.

Started a new game with the latest version (5.60, I believe). Conventional start, one billion pop on Earth with all aliens turned on.
The game's given me three LG scientists, not including the one I started with which is better than all of them, but not a single PP scientist. Because of that, I'm 13 years in and have just started developing nuclear thermal drives. It also seems like I'm losing at least one officer every other month.

So, looks like they only managed to get the rear camera picture this pass-over. Eagerly awaiting the press conference at 9am PST!

Back from watching for a moment!

Stream kept cutting out, so by the time it started descent I was nearly a minute behind. But it was worth it! So far as I can tell, a perfect landing.

We didn't have any peanuts, so I grabbed a jar of mixed nuts instead. Obviously, it worked well enough.

And now, back to watching the stream. Also, my conventional Aurora start began building it's first geosurvey ship, which will be named Curiosity in honor of the rover.

Oh hey, it started? Sweet!

If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna switch to the other computer (the non-wireless one) and start a new game of Aurora while watching :D

There is also this g+ hangout that is usually interesting. I'd usually bounce between them and NASA's official stream depending on who is on each.
Heh, love g+'s "Are you going?" button.
What does it mean? If we're going to Mars?
