Alright, I'll take four points in Handle Animal. If (as I'm going to be roleplaying) I raised this owl from a hatchling, I better make sure it listens to me, right? :P

Is it normal for bards to take a lot of skills like Diplomacy, Gather Information, and Bluff? As a half-elf, it seems that I get bonuses to the first two in any case.

ETA: I meant "points" in Handle Animal. Sadly, as it is not a class skill I have to spend more points to get ranks :(

This game makes me wish I got Beyond the Sword with Civ 4... just so much opens up with that one expansion.
This. So many awesome-looking mods require BTS that I can't stand looking for any :(

Bards don't get familiars, but there's nothing wrong with buying a pet owl. (It'd probably cost about as much as a dog.) It wouldn't talk to you, gain familiar abilities, or anything, but it'd have feathers and hoot a bit.
That's fine. I just a reasonably intelligent pet owl (can recognize me, can follow simple commands like "here!"). It would be a small owl, so it could feed itself but not be a source of free food for the party. Nothing game-breaking or providing unfair advantages. If needed, I am willing to take at least one rank in Handle Animal.
Any small animal can be free food for the party  :P
Keep in mind, when I say "small owl" I mean
Spoiler: Small Owl (click to show/hide)
It won't be catching anything much bigger than mice :P

EDIT: Waitasecond...you are NOT gonna be eating my pet owl! D:
EDITSQUARED: For the record, I started writing my edit before the below poster.

As for Perform, I will just stick with string instruments. I want to sing and play, but looking at the ranks needed to do more powerful things, the point cost for two different Perform skills would be prohibitive.

EDIT: Actually, it looks like Handle Animal would be required. Well, so much for making unneeded sacrifice :P

...So, how many skill points do I get? Pathguy says 24, d20srd says (6+INT mod) * 4, which I guess amounts to the same thing. I'd like to be able to play string instruments and sing. Do classes/races start with points in any skill?

Okay, I've decided on being a half-elf bard. Cliche, perhaps, but for my first 3.5 game I don't want to get too crazy.

A couple of questions for the good DMs/anyone willing to help:
1): I'm having a bit of trouble with the Pathfinder generator. I'm not sure what the deal is with "Prestige Classes" section is for, or if I even need to worry about it for a level 1 character. If it's entirely optional, I will skip it (unless it offers more pwnage).
2): I'm pretty sure that I'm not allowed to have a familiar as a bard, but could I have some sort of pet? For some reason, I want an owl.

Uh, pathguy generator? Pathfinder is a different game entirely. :P Don't worry about Prestige Classes. They're for around level ten, as Barbarossa said.
And I'm not sure on the owl thing.
*facepalms*
Yes, Pathguy. Not sure why I said Pathfinder.

Now for skills...good Armok, there are a lot of them. Why are there five different Perform skills? D:

Spicy chicken sandwich. Soo good.

I thought we weren't taking feats at first level? Or was that something else?

Anyway, I think I got my attributes sorted:
STR: 10
DEX: 14
CON: 10
INT: 11
WIS: 13
CHA: 16
Code: [Select]
You can accept these.  28 points spent.
 Low-powered=15, more challenging=22, standard=25,
 tougher=28, high-powered=32

32095
Bards use CHA as their best attribute, right? Or am I making that up?
I can't help but be interested in playing as a bard, slinging a fantasy-equivalent guitar and singing classic rock songs.

32096
Er...crap. I have no idea what attributes to take or class to pick. Good thing this is a newbie campaign :P

So, my best experiences with DnD were 4th edition, as a human paladin (came into the campaign a little late, started at level 8 and was level 13 by the time the group broke up) and as a dwarf runepriest (mainly healing and support with some melee potential, we got to level 5 or so before real life took over). I want to try something different this time, so...thoughts? Perhaps I could be a bard.

32097
So for that Pathguy generator, are we using standard spread for attributes (STR, CON, etc)?

Ninja Edit: Okay, so 28 points total. Seems kinda low-powered, but I guess that's the best way to ensure quick rotation :P
Thanks for the add!

Other Games / Re: [Browser Game] Pit of War

I've cooled on  this game. It's a fun idea, and the way they attempted to make it less pay-to-win endears me, but it's a huge time sink compared to other browser games. Two hours in the morning to run my arena fights and tavern quests and repair/upgrade equipment, another two hours later in the day to do the same things over again. You can pay trophies to run all tavern quests at once, but then you miss out on the best rewards.

So, I think I will retire from the gladiator management career. Take up something nice, like knitting.

32099
Don't worry, Sirus! Not many of these people know how to play yet, I don't think, you should fit right in. That's kinda the idea, actually.

Oh, and with 2 DMs I'll limit the total active players to 16 instead of 11, so we have room for a few more.
Well, whether I can play or not depends entirely on what time is chosen. Thus, I picked Saturday and Sunday, 3am each.

Why those? It'd be Friday/Saturday evenings for me. However, I'm fairly flexible on weekends, a bit less so during the week.

Well, this is a pickle. Keep doing what you're doing, I guess. At least we can communicate more effectively than most cavemen!
