So... Amoebas. Thoughts?
The ships definitely look cool, very organic. I also like the idea of having single-celled organisms as the diplomatic species in this game (isn't that usually reserved for the humans?).

When a watermelon grows off of the stem, the ground underneath goes back to normal dirt. Therefore, you'd quickly run out of growable spaces.
Last I checked, the Watermelons/Pumpkins actually DON'T need to grow onto Tilled Ground anymore...
What, really? Was that a recent update?

yes
Well, I stand corrected :P

*facepalm* right, no crafting, not easy to get ones head around. Anyway torches still in NPC villages and still worth it. Also sometimes chests have watermelon seeds so you could if you got some grow watermelons in a village.
Need a hoe for tilling. When a watermelon grows off of the stem, the ground underneath goes back to normal dirt. Therefore, you'd quickly run out of growable spaces.

MoM is right, Minecraft would need more wild things you could eat straight off the vine/tree/whatever.

Or just punch leaves to be honest. If you starve to death its only because you where not seeking food (or incredibly unlucky) which is why I normally start starving anyway. The biggest thing in a challenge like that though is find an npc village. They have wheat farms which if you protect can continue to provide wheat for a long time to come. That and the torches.
But you need to craft wheat to make it edible, so that won't work.

There have been a couple of no-pickaxe LPs, although I never watched any of them for more than a couple minutes. It's an interesting challenge, though; even getting enough stone for a furnace is a major accomplishment.
I imagine it involves hunting creepers for gunpowder, right?

That's the hand-waved explanation for Star Wars. The ship's sensors pick up on engines, lasers, etc and simulates a sound for them.
Didn't even know Star Wars tried to explain.
Only in the background material, and I'm not sure how canon it is. It kinda makes sense though.

Totally. They're both the superpowered "hidden" side of an otherwise frail character, which only comes out after certain criteria.
Well, when you put it that way...

I suppose we might end up with something similar to how Shattered Horizon deals with the lack of sound in space. In that game, while you have enough power, your suit simulates sounds. I could imagine having computers generate sounds when enemy weapons fire and similar.

I started imagining an Avengers/Warhammer 40,000 crossover. Not sure why, but suddenly I can picture them fighting a tyranid swarm or something along those lines.

I haven't seen any of those either, though I caught part of Thor. There's a lot of movies I haven't seen but mean to, I just never get around to it :P

Yeah I really didn't play Iji all the way through, I don't know why, it's not like I wasn't enjoying myself. Maybe I'll give it another look.
Be sure to get the newest/final version if you do. I played the penultimate release and got annoyed by the spoilered section below:

How far did you get in Iji? Later levels and most of the bosses have you dodging projectiles flying in every direction, and you can either fight your way through or dodge everything and avoid killing. If you only played the first level, for instance, I can see why you might say it's not intense.
THeres also Ultimortal, which is ridiculous if you haven't played in in awhile or if you just aren't great at hardest difficulties.
Ah yes, Ultimortal. Have fun dodging all of those aforementioned projectiles while you have nothing but a shotgun and your legs for kicking.
