Patriarch and Omega had nothing to do with ME1, but it sounds like you're right. I think the "old alien" thing screwed me up, since Veetor isn't old, just mildly schizophrenic.

Is it wrong for me to hope that the SCP Foundation makes at least a cameo appearance in this game?

Is this gonna have the same 'lol you're now at some weird bugged space station / brothel and you can't shoot people even though this is a shooter' parts ME2 had? I found that incredibly annoying.

I don't remember encountering any part like that. What are you referring to? 

Hmm, perhaps you're right. When I think "oil well", I think of the ones in Texas and similar areas, which (in media, at least) are in vast deserts with very little greenery. I concede the point, at least for now.
I don't think anyone can deny the effects of spills, however. Especially at sea.
