General Discussion / Re: if self.isCoder(): post() #Programming Thread

I've almost got the basic ideas down from class. Here's the last thing I did yesterday before I had to go (with lots of sometimes-contradictory help from the teacher and fellow students):

It ain't pretty or clean, but it works well enough. Now I'm trying to use the same ideas in a new assignment, but it's slow going. I kind of understand the point, but something about the syntax and structure of it all is hitting a brick wall in my mind.

Thanks for typing all that out though.

Thanks to the Free Education thread that Barbar started up, I've been introduced to free Yale lectures on Game Theory. This is VERY interesting!
Where's the thread?  I can't find it anywhere...
I don't know where the thread is, but here is the link for free classes in the thread.

Fukin user-defined functions, how do they work?

Eh, maybe it's time. I do like House, but how many more bizarre and improbable diagnosis can they come up with?

I defeated the final boss in Jamestown today for the first time. That (and my delicious sandwich for lunch) qualify this to be a happy day.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Weird Bug
« on: February 08, 2012, 10:11:53 pm »
So I had a fairly young fortress, had just hit it's first year. The caverns had been breached, an artifact iron war hammer had been created (had a particularly badass name), and a crundle invasion had just been fended off with no casualties. I began designating some more stairs deeper into the earth for my second-best miner (the best had been slain by a troll), when the bug occurred.

The designations I placed began disappearing at random, and at the same time I was hit by a flood of job-cancellation spam. Not from the miner, but from seemingly random dwarves who were roughly 30 z-levels up. Mostly from the farmers and wood cutters, claiming that there was no path to the outside. I checked, double-checked, and triple-checked, but there was absolutely nothing blocking the path, and indeed other dwarves were able to get outside to work, and human traders that arrived shortly after the bug occurred were able to enter the fortress with no fuss. Announcements were a constant spam of "Urist McWoodcutter cancels cut down tree: no path x17", and attempts to re-designate the new caves to be dug simply resulted in the designations disappearing. In the end, I abandoned.

Is this a known bug? Are there any work-arounds?

I won't be able to make it until 11:30pm GMT at the earliest. I'm at school all day.

Besides, I saw TotalBiscuit's first impression of it, and I wasn't super-impressed.

I also saw TB's first impression. While I wasn't impressed by the first impression, the game seems to have changed quite a bit since then.
Well, that may be, and I sure hope it has changed for the better. I'm still going to give it a pass; it looks like something I'd install, play once for sheer novelty value, and never play again.

Dino D-Day.

$3.39 for one copy, $10.19 for a four-pack. Do it. If you get an hour or two of entertainment out of it, it's worth it.
I'd need a hell of a lot more entertainment for a free thing to be worth it. Download speeds are so slow for some reason :/

Confusion can totally be prevented, there's an accessory for it.

Ugh. I remember that happening with those mushroom men. Annoying as hell, especially since there doesn't seem to be any way to snap them out of it or prevent confusion. That's true for most of the status effects of course, but a confused Arche is probably the most dangerous thing in the game :P

Ground wheel slash was my best weapon against the Orgs

Combined with Stella's artillery, they didn't stand a chance. It was oh-so-satisfying to boot.

...Jesus Christ.
Isn't 4chan basically a troll paradise? There's a better-than-even chance that the entire thing was made up.

I play as Arche as well. AI Arche might be better than I am, but I'd rather be swinging a sword around than standing back and spamming magic.
