General Discussion / Re: [???] Eggplant (Happy thread)

Still an ongoing struggle to find a position with my Master's. In the meantime, my BA in Liberal Arts attracted an employer offering decent pay, potential for advancement, and a full benefits package.

STEM types can suck it. :V
Tell us more.

It's kind of the opposite for me. I put a lot into my art and it doesn't attract any clients but my half-finished attempts at making websites got me the job I have right now. I just can't find my market.

More after I go in to talk to them. The firm's a temp agency looking for people to coordinate and conduct interviews and hiring of temps and liaise with client firms. Base pay isn't fantastic, but a company that'll give new hires full medical+dental+vision, a 401k, two weeks vacation, and paid holidays? Fuck yes I'll bite on that.
That's pretty good, all right. Do they offer 401k match as well?

I can understand why people might be leery of credit cards, but what on Earth is the problem with debit cards? They're vastly more convenient than cash or checks (outside of certain transactions) and safer, too. If you get mugged while carrying cash, you're out of luck. If the mugger gets your plastic on the other hand, you just call the bank and cancel the card(s) you lost. Replacements arrive within the week and the crook gets nothing.
my ass he wont. He'll just march you to an electronic cashier and make you pull out the maximum daily draw
Bullshit he will. Jumping a guy in an alley and stealing his wallet is one thing, trying to force them into a public location and hoping that your victim doesn't try to get help or just make a break for it is another entirely.
Automatic cashiers aren't that public, particularily at night.

I´ve known people who have had this happen to them. Muggers worked as a team actually. The SOP of one particular gang in the city where I studied was to surround the person, ask for the card and the pin. One mugger went to the cash machine to get the money, whereas the other two muggers stayed with the victim in case, eh, the pin provided was not real.

They were caught after a while, but it's far more than a hypothetical.
Still way riskier and more complicated than just taking their stuff and bolting. Plus, dunno about your place, but in mine ATMs universally have cameras in them.
The idea is that cards are more secure than a pocket full of benjamins, not that they're absolutely secure and the money on them cannot be stolen at all ever.
Took a shower and came back to discover just what I would have said.

Harlan trades the half-used set of knives to Harold in exchange for the Brave Sword, then moves to P-12 and gives Tomik a thumbs-up.

"Well, we would have been discovered eventually anyway."

Lagolass makes sure he has an arrow on the string - one of the non-enchanted ones he brought with him. He takes a position just behind the heavier hitters.

I think it's more that *I* have bad luck and it transfers to my characters.

One of my Pathfinder characters just missed two shots in a row with two of the lowest rolls possible. Another failed multiple saves and took half his HP in damage.

The rogue snorted.

: "What, dating prospects? Nah, there's nothing. I made it pretty clear in the beginning that not only was I a bad guy, but I also wouldn't be around for very long. Hardly good romantic material.

"It isn't so bad. They - well, most of them, anyway - are polite to me, and I'm as polite as I can be right back. It's better than nothing."

3504
: "You've been doing fine, bro. Just ask her out when this is over. I'm sure that Senija's seen plenty of what you can do on the battlefield, assuming that's something she takes into account when it comes to men."

3505
Harlan chortled, both at Harold's realistic attitude and his determination to see things through.

: "Totally agreed on both points. But hey, maybe if we score here you'll be able to score later."

The stupidity of fellow human beings just boggles the mind sometimes. Was on my way to the post office earlier today and what did I see going around a corner?

Some idiot riding his bike. In the middle of the road. Going the wrong way.

Just...are you trying to get hit by a car? Do you want to die?! If I had come along maybe 30 seconds later we would have gone around the corner at the same time and then I'd probably have one hell of an insurance claim to make. As it was, I had plenty of time to see him and there was no on-coming traffic so I was able to switch lanes around the jackass, honking and giving the stink-eye as I went.

Well geez, happy birthday to the triplets.

Harlan lowered his voice, keeping the conversation private between him and Harold.

: "We're invading the single most militarily-powerful nation in the world with what could generously be called a small army. To be perfectly honest, I'm not giving us more than a 15% chance of survival, let alone victory in any sense.

"On the off chance we do get out of this in one piece? I'm thinking of going east, as far away from Ixion as I can get. Maybe settling down in a nice seaside cottage and spending the rest of my days lounging around. Thinking I deserved a bit of retirement after all this.

"What about you? Thinking about settling down, perhaps?"

3509
: Alright, then I'm giving it to you! You're carrying a lot of knives anyways.

: "I mean, if that's the way you want to do it I ain't gonna argue. You'll have to take something of mine though...maybe these knives? You remember how to throw them? If not I've got this cheap beginner sword you can use."

3510
"Repeating: leaving now will simply require us to return later and face these nightmares again. We must not waver."

The construct sounded fairly confident despite the still-oozing gashes in its carapace.

"That blanket...should we check it? Perhaps it conceals the object of our quest."
