DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So many rats!

The embark screen said that it was a cold biome, and the snow sticking around until early autumn or so seems to confirm that. It is pretty wet, constantly raining or snowing.

DF General Discussion / Re: Unusually Competent Elven Warriors
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:30:46 am »
If the elves were losing more warriors but winning the battles, that third option might make sense. What we're seeing here is a roughly 8-1 casualty ratio in favor of the elves. Clearly, these elves are unusually badass.

OP: Build a fortress in the middle of these elves' territory. Raise an army of champion warriors, and do everything possible to make them attack. Clearly this situation calls for !!science!!, to see if they're still tougher than normal. Perhaps you'll even get a chance to slay that prince with 3k kills.

DF Modding / Re: Underhive Domestic creature brainstorming
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:16:32 am »
Working through a list of creatures to mod in for an underhive mod. Cant think of any "domesticated" animals that the underhivers might farm. So far the list is decently sized with dangerous wild animals and nothing tamable.

Anybody know what people have for pets in the underhive or in any other 40k universe setting? Im not even sure what a 40k dog analogue is.

Grox!

Basically think a (non-feathered) velociraptor with a T-Rex head. Also, domesticated.
No kidding? I always pictured grox as a sort of grazing herd animal, sort of like a bison or something.

Sounds interesting. I'll begin planning my secret fortress and gathering minions right away.

Remember, a vote for Vermin Supreme is a vote completely thrown away.
Agreed. However, I don't live in New Hampshire so I couldn't vote for him even if I wanted to.

Remember Vermin Supreme?

He made a song.
Did that guy get any votes at all? I haven't heard anything about him for quite a while.

The Rules of Space Hulk

Spoiler: Fierce Melee (click to show/hide)

These are not all of the rules. I'm leaving out certain things until we get to the missions that make use of them, because this early in the game they are nothing more than distractions.

Watching this. Sounds interesting, a little like Eternal Darkness: The Roguelike.

Not exactly, of course  :P

I'm still wondering how this is going to be different from DF, and how this will affect it.
This game has light sources. It's already different.

The music class I mentioned in the sad thread is looking up now. Out of a 51 question quiz, I managed to get 50 right. Not bad, though if it weren't open book I'd be screwed.

Name: Markus Goodridge
Skills: Doctor, Pistols
Bio: Before the apocalypse hit, Dr. Goodridge worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Alabama. Despite being a normal medical doctor and having nothing to do with abortions, he and his staff would routinely receive death threats. As a precaution, he bought a pistol and learned how to use it (thankfully, he never had to draw on a living human). Now in his early forties, his chief goal (aside from survival) is to keep his fellow humans alive.
Looks: He is 5'9" and slightly over-weight. Markus' hair went grey prematurely. A seventies child through and through, he lets it grow long and keeps it tied into a ponytail and out of his face. He is near-sighted and wears half-rim glasses to correct his vision. He wears his old lab coat over a shirt depicting the chemical symbol for alcohol. He prefers blue jeans over other pants.
Gender: Male

5 Constitution
5 Strength
5 Wisdom
5 Intelligence
5 Charisma
5 Perception
+ Doctor
+ Pistols

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Good things to learn, maybe, if you were planning to become a music critic or some such. I can't imagine a situation in which I'll need to use/identify syncopation or pentatonic scales. I can't back out now though; I dropped nearly 100 bucks for the textbook and earlier today an additional $16 for an access code which I was supposed to have already. Now I'm laboring my way through a 51-question quiz and I have a concert to attend Monday.

Fake Edit: It's called "Exploring Music", and yeah it's essentially a theory class, concentrating on classical Western music. Part of our first assignment was to identify the composer of a piece of music (it was Beethoven).

The solar plexus is not the stomach. Two different locations :/

On topic: My music class. Why did I take a music class? I don't know anything about music. I'm pretty sure I'm tone-deaf. I know nothing about phrases and harmonies. I can't figure out how to answer the questions. And it's only the first week. This is gonna be a loooong semester.
