Alright, I recently bought a new laptop which, on paper, looked to be better than my old one in every single way. Shortly thereafter, I discovered just how bad Intel integrated chips are, but that's not the purpose of this post.
Anyway, like the old laptop this one is connected wirelessly to the home network. The router is nothing special, but I discovered that this laptop gets some insanely slow download speeds, at best getting 120 kBps and more frequently closer to the 20-30 range, and downloads will sometimes fail. It doesn't seem to be the ISP or router, as identical downloads on the old laptop get better speeds and never fail. It also seems to use an inordinate amount of processor power, as watching a video or playing a game during a download causes stuttering sound and freezing the image.
But as I type this, Bittorrent is blazing away at a merry 400kBps upload speed, when the same file (a perfectly legal one, thank you!) downloaded at the previously stated best speed. What the hell? Should I have the network card inspected, in case it's faulty?
