Scene: Sundown in my boss arena
I have a full stack of shuriken, two full stacks of arrows, grenades, as well as a regen potion, thorns potion, and a bunch of ironskin potions, as well as health potions (of course). If consumable items run out, I have enchanted boomerang and trident for backup.

I select the Mysterious Eye as my active item, and as night falls I get a message:
"You feel an evil presence watching you."
For a moment, I think that somehow iCthulhu was summoned without me, but a minute passes and nothing shows up. So I use the Eye, activate my potions, and prepare for combat.

iCthulhu shows up, and I begin chucking shurikens as quickly as I can. The arena is fully enclosed, so I don't lose any. After I do some damage, a message appears on screen:

"The Eye of Cthulhu has awoken!"

Two of them. Of all the sheer dumb luck. I fight as hard as I can, even manageing to force both of them into their second forms. Still, I was overwhelmed and watched my entrails become outtrails.

So many interesting space games, so little time. I'm a sucker for 4X titles :P

Daybloom, Mushrooms and water bottles make regeneration potions. Keep a few around, they are incredibly useful.

I don't remember the Ironskin recipe, usually I find enough randomly for boss fights. You may want to look into getting those.

While Shadow armor could be nice, the only aspect that helped was the higher armor rating. Use the arrows to knock out the hands as fast as you can and use the boomerang when those are down and Skeleton is simple to dodge. Then it's just a grindfest.
I was referring to the Eye. I just suck at boss battles, I guess.

Simplest way to deal with iCthulhu is to set up an arena with a solid floor and walls, with several levels of wooden platforms. Get around 4 full stacks of shurikens, spam and dodge until it is dead. Shouldn't need more than one or two potions if you time yourself well.
Aside from the shurikens, that's exactly what I did. I'll give them a shot next time, maybe poison knives as well.

« on: December 03, 2011, 02:18:05 am »
Fell on spikes.
Bullcrap dual arrow-traps.
Got knocked out, then killed because mercy invincibility lasts about 1 second.
Shot by angry shopkeeper.
Got frustrated, armed a bomb, and imitated headless kamikaze before exploding.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mods:

A real alcohol mod. Potions can do in a pinch.
Furniture mods. I know there's an armor stand; weapon racks and statues would also be nice.
Mo' Creatures or something else that adds more wildlife and enemies. Heck, a goblin invasion mod would be cool, but I doubt that such a thing exists.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have gold/silver armor, silver bow with fire arrows, an enchanted boomerang, a shackle, double-jump, and grappling hook. I cleared out a small area and walled it off to keep out the zombies and demon eyes. Full stack of health potions, but the cool-down timer means I can only drink one or two before being killed.

You have to rescue the mechanic from the dungeon and buy them for 2 gold each.
So, no traps and mechanisms until after defeating Skeletron?

As someone who has yet to defeat the Eye of Cthulhu, this bites  :(

Some ideas:

Every player must have a bed, either in a barracks or in individual rooms
Designate a type of potion to be "booze", preferably a weak and easy-to-make one. Players must have at least one drink every day. This can be cheated a bit to get started as part of the "wagon's" supplies.
All items that are not being worn/used must go in community stockpiles. No carrying around an entire map's worth of diamonds on your person, since the next player won't be able to use them.

Minor mods that don't kill framerate or auto-build things may be used, such as armor stands, statues, an actual booze mod, or adding more creatures for dwarves to slaughter frolic with.

I can't figure out how to make wrenches and wire cutters. I tried showing several materials to the guide, but no luck. Are they treasures that must be found?

I applied some dwarf logic to mechanics. I think it turned out well, for a start.

EDIT: I suppose I should say what it does. Stepping on the top pressure plate spawns a skeleton, who wanders around and keeps spawning slimes, who bounce around and kill themselves with the darts. Takes quite a while to get much gel though.
You can spawn enemies?

WHAT.

I love it :D

I don't mind spiders as much as some people, but here in California you get black widows and brown recluses, so it's smart to avoid manhandling strange ones.

I lived in California all my childhood, and I just got used to Black widows hiding in the nooks and crannies.
I don't care how used to them you get, it's still smart to avoid getting bitten :/

I'm gonna guess that herpatologists avoid getting bitten by king cobras and the like.

Dunno, being bitten loads of times... = Immunisation :D
Being bitten once, if allergic/overdosed = Death :P

Hey, you can get bitten or stung by whatever you want. I prefer not having venom in my bloodstream.

Haw, the secret ending is pretty good.

I still feel like the game is a little light on secrets but maybe I've been spoiled by iji.
To be honest, I'm fine with that. Iji was a platformer with a serious storyline and several big decisions to make. It can take several hours to beat if you don't really know what you're doing.

HPP is a fun little hyperactive shooter that you can beat in about 10-20 minutes.
