A game where you can create things.
Like make incendiniary lemons by picking out several pieces and putting them together.
Then use them in a 3D environment.

This.

Even a not-3D game could be fun.
I just want a game that lets me invent something instead of following a tree.
In a sane way, not "Oh, mod it!"
When you say "instead of following a tree" what do you mean by that?
He means following a tech tree, the term for what things you need to unlock to unlock other stuff.

For example, in Minecraft you need wooden tools before you can get cobblestone, stone tools to harvest iron, and iron tools to harvest diamond, before using diamond tools to gather obsidian. That's a very basic tech tree.

Crusty, that is surprisingly good for thermal engines. They'll only get better from here  :D

Neonivek, I'm guessing that such things will probably be added later.

No idea. Like I said, I never fooled around with troops very much.

I guess the REAL question is: what's the absolute minimum size troop transport possible?

Is it even possible to store fighters inside FACs?

Kinda what I meant re: specific weapon strengths. Would a missile always penetrate a certain number of layers, no matter what the armor tech?

Perhaps I don't understand armor layers very well, but what if the enemy has high-tech armor? Wouldn't a single layer of, say, composite armor be more effective than 2 layers of plain duranium?

You can still build and research stuff without points. The points are just there to give a sense of "fairness". Nothing stopping you from instanting the entire tech tree.

I don't like to cheat.  I don't even like to start with trans-newtonian technology.  I prefer conventional era starts, it feels more.. natural.
And that's perfectly fine. No one ever said you had to use the points either  ;)

Very true, lol.  Next time I'll just make sure I have a bit of a navy before I go exploring potentially hostile systems.  In this game I had kinda gotten a strong land based army before a navy, because.. well, I like ground troops and wanted to be able to withstand a ground invasion.. kinda stupid now that I think about it, as they can just blast my troops from above.  XD
Not sure about the latest version, but back in my old version NPRs didn't even bother with ground invasions. Unless you are the one doing the invading, ground troops are pretty useless.

For some reason I feel I should wear a condom before reading anything on this page.  Everything here is just so dirty!
I feel like reading this page has given the Feds my IP address :P

I don't have Aurora installed on this laptop yet, sorry. I'm not quite sure what might be wrong, but are you sure you're pressing the Assign button?
