((Dear gods, let someone be online!))

Big breaking news, y'all. A minor race has managed to steal all of the techs that the Thalans have, and are willing to trade with us. Doing some exploratory trading, I have managed to secure Medium and Large-Scale Building, Enhanced Logistics, and Space Defenses. The price, however, is high: All of our techs and trade goods, and around 6,500bc. We may be able to get a better deal by offering planets, though we'd probably never get those planets back short of war.

So on the one hand, we can score expensive techs that will give us a major advantage before we head off to war, from a minor race that will probably never be a threat. On the other hand, we lose exclusive rights to several trade goods (meaning that the minor race in question can trade them to potential enemies) and around half the treasury.

The choice is up to you guys.

Sorry for the lack of updates! School has been far more hectic than originally anticipated. Still, now that the weekend has arrived I should be able to push out an update or two. Stay tuned!

With both of my teammates down, I soloed a Ymir-class mech as an Adept. Ymir mechs, for those who haven't played the game, are essentially walking tanks with heavy shields and armor, neither of which are affected by most of an Adept's powers.

Playing Spelunky. Was on the fourth area. I'm doing good, have 4 health and the staff that shoots homing insta-kill rings. I leap across a lava pit only to be nailed by an arrow trap halfway across. It sends me flying backwards to ricochet off of a wall into a short pit, where a priest of Kali chain-throws me to death.

The reason it has 13 military production is because excess social production gets transferred to military. I could still probably build a spaceport on planets like those, but that would be up to Colonial Affairs.

36651
Well, for economic and research planets, once all the infrastructure is down there isn't much left to do except make money/devote production to research. I'm also saving room for special improvements that will come along later.

((And now the update title is even more accurate than before! Every screenshot before I ragequit is gone! FFUUUUUUUU))
((Ok, don't panic. I'll recreate everything up until then to the best of my abilities. It was mostly research, colonization, being extorted, declarations of war (none involving the Terrans) and impending doom))

Year of Lost Records

Sadly, records from the first 2/3rds of this year are fragmentary at best. Former government historians claim that this is the result of an accidental EMP that was set off in the vicinity of the storage building. Regardless, they remain unemployed.

The year was marked, however, by slowly increasing despair. Despite great strides made in the scientific fields, the invention of Diplomatic Translators, and the colonization of several new worlds, the expanding might of the Krynn loomed large in the race's psyche. Several major events perfectly sum up the overall feel of the time:
  • Several wars suddenly being declared. The Thalans were the primary aggressor in many of these conflicts, though the Krynn started their fair share (mainly with minor races)
  • Despite the Alliance's growing military power, other races viewed us as more an annoyance than an actual threat, many times taunting us with news of their advancing technology or demanding tribute.
  • The Krynn worlds completely surrounded Terran space, out-influencing all but the major Terran worlds.
  • Perhaps the worst of all, word came in that the Star Swarm had discovered an Ascension Crystal, and had begun the long process of absorbing it's power. With enough energy, the entire race would ascend to god-like status.

MAX POWER! had had enough. He disappeared, along with his closest council members, for 48 solid hours. Many feared that they had abandoned their people. But when they returned, a new light was burning in the President's eyes. New orders were given, warships and constructors were churned out at a prodigious pace, and several talks were made with the Arcean Empire:

A new world was colonized, Starbuck IV:

Enhanced Miniaturization was also completed:

Sadly, even with this technology the NRDL remained a pipe dream (seriously! Two miniaturization upgrades, and the stupid small hulls still can't handle both a stinger and impulse drive!). However, as a sort of consolation prize, an upgrade to the Phoenix was made available:

The new ships were immediately put into production.

We received word that the Swarm had developed a new type of hull metal:

We quickly retaliated (metaphorically speaking) by building our own Ascension Crystal Harvesting Station:

The Economic Capital was finished on Embor I, nearly doubling the planet's income:

In celebration, the people of Embor spent an extravagant sum on designing and mass-producing nano-sized repair robots:

After a stern lecture, MAX POWER! rewarded the governor with a personal space yacht.

On the newly colonized world of Walleye II, a strange hermit was discovered living there. He claimed to be a scientist, and wished to be left alone:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It was decided that he would be guaranteed privacy in exchange for voluntarily sharing information.
((Seeing as how both neutral and evil choices had the exact same benefit, I saw no reason to be evil))

Walleye II looked to be a strong economic world, with various bonuses to improve the lives of the populace:

The planet of Starbuck IV announced the invention of Nano Recorders, which would greatly boost research efforts empire-wide:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In an effort to boost the power and relations of the Arcean Empire (whose own territory was being infringed on by the Krynn),MAX POWER! offered an economic treaty. They gladly accepted, praising the generosity of the Terrans, their ancestors, and the next three generations of descendants:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
((Economic treaties boost the economies of both empires in the treaty. They are also a strong relationship booster))

And so, the UP assembled once more. The Krynn, Swarm, and Thalans used their overwhelming majority to halt a measure that would guarantee the loyalty of asteroid bases.

MAX POWER!, who was always a little odd, noted that the graph for the three races looked uncomfortably like Pac-Man...

Alright, there's only ONE WEEK until planetary invasion is complete. Our fleet now consists of a mix of Phoenixes M1 & M2. Numbers are actually fairly even, as I colonized a couple of planets that made obvious shipbuilding worlds. I had to make an executive decision, and now our fleet is fairly large.

I will post the status of each planet later. Remember, tomorrow will NOT be an update day. The tentative new schedule is MWF = Play, TuThSat = Update. I'll probably take breaks on Sundays.

Again, apologies for the short update and severe lack of pics. Hopefully X-fire will behave in the future.

36654
OK! Some screenshots may be missing thanks to X-fire crashing, but the year is over! Update will be posted as soon as I can get everything written. Things may be even worse than anticipated!

(Seems to be an LP tradition, especially for games like these  :P )

36655
War probably won't be declared this update. I want to get the invasion tech first, and spend time building as many warships and transports as possible. Once hostilities break out, all of the currently defenseless worlds will start producing defenders. The first strike must be decisive.

Speaking of update, I will be finishing the playing shortly. The actual update will be made as soon as possible afterward.

36656
I've actually been holding most spies in reserve (got five, last I checked). Once war breaks out, I will send most of them to attack financial buildings and stuff like that, to weaken the Krynn. Sadly, since the Krynn are spy masters, many will likely perish in the line of duty.

ç_ç am i not enough R&D to be considered?

R&D
"i did say to research planetary invasion sooner and then tidal disruption, didn't i?!"
"calm down chief!"
"these incompetent fools! i was warning them all along!"
"chief please stop! you can't lobotomize them!"
"we will see!"
"chief! stop maiming the lab mices!"
"i will show them!" *squeeak (sounds of mice getting minced to shreds)
"the mice don't deserve it!!!"
"oh...you're right. Bury it then. I'll be writing a detailed plan"
0) NRDL necessary techs. (added)
1)Planetary invasion
2)XENO FARMS technology (more of it)
3)MORE XENO FARMS technology (still more of it)
4)Xeno influences/economics. (the influence-raiser which adds influence increase modules to the starbases A MUST)
5)Increase population, increase population, increase population.
>.>
Err...my bad? ^^;

36658
I wish someone from R&D would post. I'm genuinely unsure which way to go first: Produce the NRDL (requires me to finish miniaturization and do some quick point defense; cheap techs) or go for planetary invasion and rely on the Phoenixes to defeat Krynn ships. Either way, things are gonna get bloody.

36659
It'd take a little while, but I don't see a reason why not.

36660
Oh yes. As I said, we've got a fairly substantial fleet of Phoenixes already. One-on-one, they'd have a hard time standing up to Krynn ships, but throw them into fleets and they'd put up a good fight. I guess it depends on if you'd rather have NRDLs or invasion capabilities first.

@ Mr. Person: They actually have Missile 3 ships, which can be done with the very first level of stingers. But yes, we've got at least two good research worlds working right now, so a lot can get done.
