IIRC, the tech takes 16 weeks to research, and I'm about halfway through something else. Of course, there's always the chance of Creativity showing through!

Oh, they likely have more than a billion per world. By default, a planet has a population cap of 8 billion (no farms). However, my plan (pending approval of the War Council) is to first take the worlds inside our borders. They'll have less population due to being newer, and they'll solve the problem of our worlds being influenced.

Sorry Sheb, but I've stopped producing Basques. There's just aren't any colonizable planets in our range; pretty much everything has been snapped up by the Krynn. However, there are a number of hazardous worlds (toxic atmospheres, ocean worlds, and the like) that can be colonized with proper research.

While general defenses are fine for a general-purpose warship, we know that the Krynn only use missiles. It'd be a far better use of a heavy fighter's limited space to maximize it's anti-missile defenses. Plus, we'd be able to start production much sooner, rather than waiting for two extra techs to be finished.

@ NRDL: I couldn't say. In my experience, AI ships tend to go for maximum firepower rather than speed or defenses. However, we're on Medium difficulty, and GalCiv is known for some pretty tricky AI.

From what I can see, most of their worlds are undefended, and the only combat ships I can see are heavy fighters with 3 missile attack. We've got a large number of Phoenixes (heavy fighters with 1 beam attack), which can be upgraded to NRDLs once we have the proper tech. In the meantime, they can still destroy ships. With more worlds becoming industrialized, the number of warships we can produce rise dramatically.

Yes, we'll need to research planetary invasion before we can do anything about the planets, but that's really the only way to take those planets away from the Krynn. They just have too much influence to take any other way.

Oh, the Swarm is still a threat, but more long-term than the Krynn. Trust me on that.

Still, things aren't totally hopeless. What needs to happen is that we strike now, while the Krynn are distracted fighting a bunch of other people. I'm also pursuing better relations with the Arceans and the Yor, the later of whom are also fighting the Thalans. Right now the galaxy is pretty much a mess of conflict, though we've managed to stay out of it so far.

I know I'm the impartial GM, but Mr. Person's plan seems like the best option currently. And for some good news, a bunch more planets have been colonized, including a couple that are obvious shipbuilding worlds. And we're still seeing major profits.

I will finish the turn and update tomorrow.

Is it really that important?
I use threads and forums like these to find awesome stuff to play...so yes.

The next generation of miniaturization is already being worked on. I also found out that the Krynn are using missiles, like our own vessels. No defenses though, so perhaps we should get some point defense before designing the NRDL?

Not sure what IP stands for, but I assume DoW means "Declaration of War".

This is not the preview. This is me, pausing the turn halfway thru, because I am thoroughly pissed  >:(

Boatmurdered, for instance. The planet has two embassies and an influence starbase (upgraded twice). You'd think that'd be enough to out-influence a class-4 Krynn world in the same system with nothing but factories, right?

WRONG

Boatmurdered, despite my best efforts, is slowly succumbing to Krynn control.
Our territory is completely surrounded.
The idea to let the Krynn colonize low-class worlds in our territory, hoping for a repeat of Mars, has backfired horribly and now several of our worlds are inside the Krynn sphere of influence.
The Krynn have also delcared war on several civilizations, major and minor. The Krynn are winning.
We cannot produce the NRDL, the only ship so far capable of standing up to Krynn vessels, because our miniaturization tech is too low.

Basically, we're pretty much boned. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

Alrighty, time to get started. Remember, there will not be an update until tomorrow. I will probably post a spoiler/preview tonight, but no guarantees.

First time playing cataclysm.  Have no idea what I'm doing, try to fight off a horde of zombies in a field with a steak knife after I figured out that firing a gun to kill a squirrel is in fact, a bad idea.  Death 1

Find a gas station, decide to blow up a gas station for the lulz (who can resist really) escape the explosion easily and then turn a corner to get vomited on by a boomer.  I stab it and it explodes.  By the time my vision cleared I was surrounded by no less than 20 zombies.  Death 2.

Go to a bar.  There's a fucking bear in the bar.  Why is there a fucking bear in the bar.  Get eaten by bear. Death 3
...goddammit. I'm just gonna HAVE to go play Cataclysm, aren't I?  :P

((Oh, I think I've seen that one. Didn't he do a stream the other week about the new campaign mode?))

((Why a pickaxe?))

Sirus, since you mentioned Mars when we improve yellow/orange/red tiles to Green they just become basic tiles right? There's no chance of them becoming special tiles, and a planet will never start with special tiles in one of those areas, right?
I don't know if that's a hard-and-fast rule, but I can't recall ever seeing a bonus applied to an "unlockable" tile. It sorta makes sense, as you wouldn't find say, extra-fertile land (farm bonuses) in an area that you had to chemically treat to just make usable.

36674
Plants are not like factories. They do not provide production, they boost it. Sorta like those tiles that boost a single building, but applied planet-wide.

@ Basque: Keep in mind, the Phoenixes are much smaller and cheaper than colony ships, which is why they can be made so quickly on Ymir. Still, it compares favorably with Earth's production rating, which can produce a Basque every 5-6 weeks. Once Mars and Pithra V are brought up to speed, I can easily see the numbers that you're talking about.

No, I will not be uploading screenshots of each planet. The updates will be text-based, but I can give pretty much any info required.

Speaking of Mars, I recommend to Colonial Affairs that at least one of the soil enhanceable tiles be used for a Power Plant. We don't have the tech for them yet, but they are one-per-planet improvement that dramatically boosts production.
