Gordon took a deep breath."A peculiar question for a priest to ask. But with a brief examination of your case...I can see why you would risk asking such thing. Unfortunately I created the Reaper for a reason; to make sure the dead would remain that way. To let the mortal be able to rest peacefully, so that goes against those principles. If this was a recent death, I would be willing to make an exception, but she has been in the afterlife for a long while, however I can arrange another option for you."
"I will grant you access to the afterlife. You will be allowed to traverse between these two worlds-But do NOT bring anyone with you. This access is specifically limited to you, if someone tries to cross this bridge alongside, they will face the Reaper's punishment. This way you will not have to forfeit your life to be able to see her."
: "In that case...aye, I accept. I will protect me companions in tha trials ta come, and accept this boon."
: "...Was that a sword that just bounced off your head, Vortai? It's a good thing you were wearing that helmet."
: "Goodness, is that a Light siege tome? Those are rare. May I see that, Marlow?"
: "We'd be pretty lousy merchants if that were the case. We haven't got two coins to rub together."
: "We do way more important stuff, like saving people in danger and fighting villains. It's a lot more fun, too; I couldn't imagine sitting in some dusty room adding numbers together my entire life."
: "Anyway, we've been wandering the Empire for the past few years trying to make names for ourselves. It doesn't exactly fill the wallet, but it's satisfying work."

: "Who, us?"
: "We weren't staring--"
: "--not much anyway--"
: "--and we're not really looking for a fight--"
: "--not that I have anything to fight with--"
: "--but if you're offering something to eat--"
: "--we won't say no!" So decided, the two picked up their plates and maneuvered through the inn to sit closer to where the excitement was.
: "We're the Kanekos, from Izumo. She's Chidori and he's Chikara."
: "Dori. Don't."
: "Don't what?"
: "Don't do what we both know you're thinking of doing. We just got here, we have no money, and let's not forget that you don't have a blade. Don't go looking for fights right now." After a moment, Chidori returned her attention to the meal.
: "Oh, fine. That one with the hood looks like she'd be a fun opponent though." Even without looking at her brother's expression, she could tell that the one with the hood was the one Chikara was worried about.
: "I can't believe you broke your sword like that."
: "Aw c'mon, it's not like I let a wagon roll over it or anything."
: "You used it as a prybar."
: "Whiiich lifted that boulder just enough--"
: "--just enough to save that kid from drowning, I know. We could have found another way."
: "Not in time. Besides, it was just a sword. An object. I can get a new one."
: "With what money? Our last gold piece was spent on this meal."
: "Tasty meal though. Cheer up, Kara. We'll find something suiting our talents." The boy grumbled in reply, but whether it was the food or his sister's positivity, his scowl did lessen somewhat.
: *pant* *pant* "T-thank you. I don't think I could have kept going much longer."
