: "We won't get to witness anything if you get taken out in the first charge. Allow me."

: I'm just hoping that magic field of theirs will prevent my Arte from draining a little too much energy from anyone I hit...

I-6, display vampiric confidence.

: "I assure you, Miss Marta, I am as solid as I have ever been. See?" 42 held out his hand to the engineer for examination.

42-1 looked around in confusion. Not at everyone suddenly acting odd, for that seemed to be normal in his vicinity. No, it was more that people were acting odd in a very specific way. The homunculus had never seen anything quite like it.

: "Miss Marta, are you well? You seem...distracted."

(6,10), Fortify! Guard Vandertz afterwards.

605
: "We'll just have to do the best we can. "

Don't be ridiculous, the Moon Nazis were defeated years ago in a mahjong game of the highest stakes imaginable.

I quite like being nice to the NPCs, honestly. Helping with their troubles and hearing/reading their thanks releases all of those natural feel-good chemicals in my brain, lets me feel like a hero (or at least a decent guy).

Not that I don't cut loose and unleash my dickish side at times, but it really depends on the game and it's always the exception rather than the rule.

For something in a similar vein, consider Atom Zombie Smasher. It has many of the things you mentioned (infections spreading by contact, placing barriers, AI that does breathtakingly stupid things sometimes) and a few that you didn't (squares instead of circles, artillery).

From what I hear (unless this was a different incident altogether) the spreadsheet was not in Excel but in some older file format that can "only" handle about 65k rows of data. Apparently no one realized this until recently, which means that anything beyond the first 65k entries or so basically didn't get saved.

: "This makes no sense at all! I would have thought that members of the House of Scholars would be wise enough to not instantly believe such an outrageous claim. Especially when it's our second visit here and the Abbess has personally met with us!

"And...and who is this 'Atan'? There's no Old God by that name! I wonder if that word is the trigger phrase for some sort of powerful enchantment that the Scholars are under..."

That's why you don't normally set up bases until you have a decent number of reasonably competent fighters. I don't mean one or two, I mean 8+ fighters that are at least capable of taking on Dust Bandits without serious injury. Minimum.

He's been moved to a hospital already? That's either a severe case of jumping the gun or it's a good deal more serious than I expected.

Save the hospital beds for the actually serious cases, Trump.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't several crop plants in pretty much constant danger of getting wiped out because they've lost most/all genetic diversity, and thus are incredibly vulnerable to any disease or parasite that comes along? Biodiversity is essential because it adds redundancy in case some nasty plague comes along and kills off huge swaths of one population or another.
