I don't seem to have much trouble with stun lancers, am I the only one? The stun seems to go away once my turn starts and I haven't yet gotten any killed by it.

If you're a real pro you use the skull bandana over the skull facepaint.
Skull bandana, skull facepaint, and an off-white bandana tied over the top of the head. Spooky scary skeleton.

I'm coming up on 20.

Seems young, sure.

To me it means the end of being a teenager, which is quite frankly something I never want to happen.
I decided I was old when I turned 20. BUT IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE SOMEHOW.

I've heard immortality is supposedly on the horizon. Next half century, tops.

Naturally, I am sceptical.

I arranged to have my noggin frozen, just in case those scientists aren't fast enough.
Wow. The procedures on that site are almost word-for-word that of a novel I read more than a decade ago.

8970 things on sale. Holy crap.

And no easy way to tell if there's anything interesting on that list D:

Post your findings I guess.
Check your wishlist?

Does anyone know how to restrict your custom soldiers from appearing as scientists or engineers, by any chance? I want the dudes I spend time customizing to take the field so that I can watch them grow powerful (or die), not get a static portrait before they disappear into the lab never to be seen again.

Okay, the retaliation missions (basically the old terror missions) are a lot more terrifying all of a sudden.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Outside of the two automatic casualties in the tutorial, I've only lost a single soldier so far. I'm worried that maybe Veteran is too easy, but on the other hand the next rank up might be beyond my capabilities. I'm cursing bullshit often enough as it is.  :-\

Does the Collector stick around after you retreat, forcing you to either find another route or give up the quest?

Another thing I noticed (and am not at all fond of) is that weapons seem to have a hard limit on accuracy. I'm not sure what else can explain a flanking shot from an assault rifle at point-blank range only having 85% accuracy (and it missed, of course, resulting in the soldier pointing his gun in the air before firing the burst). Maybe ranks have an even greater impact on targeting than they did before, but for pete's sake I'm pretty sure even rookies in EW could get perfect shots off in such situations. Thankfully I think the RNG took pity on me for that, because the lucky sectoid only moved a few tiles away and failed to affect that same soldier's mind.

Apparently the tutorial missions (some of them, at least) are game-critical.

On the third mission, I failed to reach my objective in time thanks to some terribly unlucky shots repeatedly missing a sectoid. I tried to rush the objective, but the rookie in question triggered a second batch of enemies and she didn't have the movement range anyway. Despite eventually prevailing against the foes, not losing a single soldier, AND finding some good-sounding loot, upon finished the mission I was told that the XCOM project would be shut down, effective immediately, and I was given the option to restart the mission. The second time I managed to prevail, though I noticed that the unactivated patrols didn't move in the same way and the loot did not drop. Shame.

Performance also seems somewhat worse than EW; longer loading times and more frequent stuttering. Might have to update drivers or something, because I know for a fact that my graphics card supports DirectX 11.

Still! It's definitely intense and I'm liking it so far. Getting mind-controlled on the second mission of the game was an unpleasant experience.

What I'm saying is that, whether the remake is downloaded or on a cartridge, it needs to have been modded in some way in order to trade with more modern pokemon games. Perhaps via that Pokemon bank app thingy. Otherwise it will only ever be able to trade with G/S/C cartridges at the latest, which can't be played on any device that a 3DS can connect to IIRC.

I'm...not so much hyped, to be honest. The first generation is great for nostalgia but pretty terrible mechanically. When you compare it to newer generations, that is. Back when the only gendered Pokemon were the Nidoran lines, when Special was a single stat, and Speed was even more of a godstat than it is now. Back when Fire Punch was based on Special while Hyper Beam was based on Attack. Back when Psychics were the undisputed kings and Dragons had only a single move (which always did consistent damage anyway and thus was unaffected by stats or STAB).

Face it, Gen1 was an unbalanced mess and absurdly glitchy. It has a fond place in my heart, but I'll only consider getting the remake if they have some easy way to transfer the pokemon caught in it to the newer generations.

That's odd, I know TotalBiscuit did a preview video and the Guile hair was one of the things he could give his soldiers.

((In fact, I plan to learn languages as often as reasonably possible. Bards get tons of skill points (I get 9 per level) and we'll surely need things translated from time to time. Plus hilarity is always good :P ))
