: "No Man's Land, hmm? I wonder what business she has there...it is not, as the name implies, a place where many people go."

The number of guards hired bothered him as well. If the stories he had heard about the place were accurate, then this bunch might be too few.

: "Bite me old man, we were just trying to help some folks. And what's your excuse? Are you one of the bandits, or did you get captured despite your "cunning"?"

9018
The cavalier chuckled.

: "Remind me to match blades with you once I get my old sword arm back. I think the outcome will be quite different." After giving Ash's hand a firm shake, he dropped it.

: "So. I don't suppose anyone has an inkling as to why our mystery lady would hire us all?"

9019
Hildebrand slung the practice lance over his left shoulder and extended his right hand towards Ash.

: "That was well fought. You've got some real talent there, if you continue to work at it."

9020
That's okay. I'm pretty bad at it myself :/

The girl was clever, and that was good. She was also quick, which was also good (except for him in this sparring match, anyway; speed wasn't exactly his forte). Hildebrand backed away slightly, swinging his lance laterally, hoping to catch her with the shaft and maybe knock her off balance.

((Up to you, mostly. I know we both have to work long hours sometimes, and I figured Uxie could use some practice before we get into the first real fight. If you'd rather RP it, I'm game. It'll just be a bit slow :P ))

Here you go UXLZ, a practice combat for you to roll if you want :V

I have to go to work in a minute but I will check in via phone later.

: "Unfair, I know. On the other hand, most bandits carry axes which can easily knock my lance aside. You cannot always count on having the advantage."
Now watch as I get beaten by this young woman. Sir Gilbert would never let me hear the end of it, if he found out...

Hildebrand hefted the lance and moved in, stabbing directly at Ash's stomach.

9024
: "It's still a vital part of learning the art of war. However, if you truly wish to practice against a flesh-and-blood opponent...how about a spar?"

Hildebrand leaned his lance against a convenient wall and grabbed a practice lance instead. Basically nothing more than a long stick, really.

9025
: "Ah, where are my manners...?"

: "Hildebrand Danorum, from Zadrye. And don't worry about the fact that the lump can't fight back. Just committing the moves to memory will give you a huge advantage over someone who never trains at all."

9026
Hildebrand nodded his greeting.

: "Well enough, I suppose. It was...Ashlyssa, right? How goes your training?"

Iron Swords are listed as starting equipment for a First-Class character. Trainees have to choose between Slim Sword, Wooden Sword, or Iron Knife.

I beat The Consuming Shadow after a pretty lucky run.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What game is this?

Yahtzee's first truly commercial game. Gameplay video here.

I think it's pretty good, but I'm willing to forgive it a lot because I enjoyed the Chzo games and the ideas are original enough. However, the graphics are basic, and combat can screw you over hard if you're fighting more than a certain number of enemies, due to mandatory auto-aim. For my part though, it was worth ten bucks. Also, I got free ebooks of Jam and Mogworld with it, though I'm not sure that deal is still around.
Oh, the Consuming Shadow is the name of the game. I thought it was a boss or something :P

After several hours of horseback practice, Hildebrand finally called it quits for the day. He led Anubis to a convenient stall and removed all the bulky equipment (saddle, reins, etc) from his old friend's back, then made sure that there were plenty of oats for the horse to eat before leaving.

The cavalier felt better than he had in a long time. Okay, he was still weak and pathetic, but thanks to that pegasus rider - Sam, wasn't it? - his technique had noticeably improved. He might actually be capable of a fight now!

Hildebrand approached the sword-training dummies where some of the other mercs practiced. He decided to watch for a while, thinking he might as well get in some dismounted practice when one of the targets was free.

Toady doesn't really care about shitposts. The only reason the grisha5 thread got removed was because somebody made a Wikipedia article about grisha5 apparently.
You must be joking.
They were altering existing articles and toady was all "don't be using my forums to vandalize websites!" And everything was kill
Fucking hell. My faith in this community just took a massive hit.
